When the weather begin to change, especially during the cold or rainy season, many people start catching cold, coughing, and having catarrh. Most times, cold and cough happens when the body is exposed to too much cold or when the immune system is weak. Some people also get it when they stay too long under fan or air condition, or when they get caught in rain. Another cause is when people share towel, cups or even spoons with someone who already have catarrh. These things spread easily, especially when we don’t cover our mouth or nose while sneezing.

The effect of cold and catarrh may look small but it can really disturb your daily life. You will feel weak, tired, have running nose all day, sometimes with headache or sore throat. Some people can’t even sleep well because of blocked nose or constant coughing. When it becomes like it is too much, it can even lead to fever or infection when it is not treated early.

To prevent it, must try to keep yourself quite warm. Wear sweater or jacket when the weather is cold, and avoid staying too long in wet clothes. Drink enough water and take warm tea or soup often. Ginger and honey also helps to calm cough and clear the throat. Avoid dusty areas and clean your room always because dust can trigger sneezing and catarrh easily.

It’s also good to eat well during this season more fruits and vegetables to make your body strong. And please, always wash your hands and use handkerchief when sneezing. Avoid sharing of personal items like towel or cup. If you notice someone close to you is coughing too much, just give them space till they recover.

At the end of the day, prevention is far better than cure. Taking care of yourself in the cold season will save you from unnecessary sickness and stress.
