Hello fellow citizens! Here we are again on this beautiful day!
Today I want to try a few experiments with you—or rather, some little games focused on visual impairment.
I chose this specific photo because, in my mind, it’s a truly iconic image when it comes to these kinds of experiments.
[INSERT YOUR PHOTO HERE]
Our ancestors possessed magical powers that we have lost today. One of them was having receptors in their fingertips very similar to those in the optic nerve, which allowed them to recognize objects simply by touch.
Today, our world revolves entirely around sight. Because of this, we’ve abandoned certain habits, losing them forever.
But let's get to the point. I usually play these games in schools with kids aged 8 to 13, and they always bring out a few laughs and some good fun.
They aren’t medically certified, and I’m no doctor, but they work. I try them myself every single day, and having gone from sighted to completely blind, I can absolutely confirm that they do.
The Glass of Water
Let’s start with this first experiment. Grab a glass—pro tip: pick a slightly large one to avoid a total mess—and a simple bottle of water.
Now here comes the fun part: you need to blindfold yourself. No cheating, make sure your eyes are fully covered! Then, using only your hearing, try to fill it up.
Usually, one of two things happens: the reckless ones end up overflowing the glass, while the overly cautious ones won't fill it enough to even get a sip.
It might sound silly, but it’s really not that easy. You have to listen closely to the changing sound of the water in the glass to gauge how much you've poured.
💡 A little trick:
Now that you've given it a shot, let me share a little secret—keep it between us! If you stick your pinky finger just inside the rim of the glass, you’ll manage to get a nice, full drink without taking an unexpected shower.
The Taste of Things
Another game that the kids absolutely love is the blind taste test. Think about it: nowadays we are so used to going out to a restaurant, snapping a nice picture of the food, posting it online, and only then starting to eat. But here’s the catch: just by looking at what’s on your plate, your brain already forms an idea of what you’re about to eat and the flavors you’re going to experience.
For this one, you’ll need some help from your wife or partner. Have them prepare something new for you, maybe using an ingredient you don't usually enjoy, and tell them to get a bit creative with it.
🍽️ Lunch is ready!
Now, sit down at the table, still completely blindfolded, and eat the meal prepared for you.
What’s the twist? Whatever you taste will feel completely different from the usual flavors you are accustomed to.
The texture, the taste, and the aromas will completely confuse you. But in the end, once you take the blindfold off, you’ll realize the dish looks entirely different from what you had imagined.
👁️ Our eyes lie to us!!!
Now it’s your turn. Give these a try and let me know how it went! I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts, and in my next post, I’ll share a few more little games for you to try.
See you soon!
Yours,
zumzulik
A presto!
Il vostro
