Our family observed the 14th day of the lunar month, memorialized by a remembrance of both the exodus from Egypt and the crucifixion of our Lord.
While some call it "Passover", we call it "Remembrance" because Yeshua (Jesus) said "Do this in REMEMBRANCE of Me". This is why we observe a remembrance of both "this" (which is Passover) and "Me" which is Yeshua.
We eat delicious home-made unleaded bread, which is totally different from the dry crackers from the store. They're soft and chewy and a delight to eat.
We light candles to begin the seder, which usually takes about an hour and a half (or more) before dinner.
It's tricky keeping the children engaged that long, but we do some fun things that keeps things interesting for them.
We have our children remove the last of the leven from our house:
We hide the middle unleavened bread in the house, for the children to find later, like a treasure hunt. And we go out front and put red paint on the door post (symbolic of the Blood of the Lamb of God):
The parents enjoy some special wine, while the children enjoy sparkling grape-juice in wine glasses.
We ask the children questions and they enjoy giving responses.
We conclude the seder with singing and drinking together as we finish our last cups. Meanwhile, diner is almost ready. We enjoy the proper meal together, including lamb meat-balls, unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
After the Seder
As the sun goes down, a special rest-day begins. Traditionally people stay up late into the night, reading scripture and watching out the window. It's remembered that long ago in Egypt that there was weeping in every home, except the homes that were "Passed Over". Last night, there was no destroyer killing all the first born this year, but even if there were, I don't think the red paint from Home Depot on our door frame would make much of a difference for our home.
But if the Blood of Messiah is upon this home, then we are confidently SAVED.
Joy and Sadness, Sweet and Bitter
This ceremony is a mix of both joy and sadness, celebration and mourning, with deep meaning and symbolism. Our family reads the gospel story of Messiah's final hours.
After a special day of rest, the next day (the third day) we remember the RESURRECTION of our Lord! This is the traditional Easter, but again, different day and we call it by a different name. Resurrection day! That's TODAY!
Because we do not observe the calendar week for these days, but observe the moon cycles (as proper lunatics), we observe "good Friday" on Saturday, special Sabbath on Sunday, and "Easter" on Monday. Also an entire week early. There is such a deep tradition surrounding the passion week, it seems odd to observe them outside of the traditional Christian calendrical week, but we believe it to be authentic and God's timing.
Third Day Remembrance
We haven't figured out a resurrection day seder, but we'd like to observe a "3rd Day Remembrance" with similar teaching opportunities for our children, songs, activities, etc.
And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD so that it may be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath.' Lev 23:10
May our High Priest in Heaven Yeshua (Jesus) wave the sheaf and may it be accepted on behalf of our entire household. AMEN!
