Hi guys, today is my personal Art Sunday, and since you know how much I love art and sculptures, today I will again talk about art and national mentality.
You remember that I have already shown you this surprising monument in a large Bulgarian regional city, which for me is the greatest embodiment of the mentality of the Bulgarian people.
But a few meters from it, in the same city, as a work of the same sculptor stands another surprising monument:
It is another, perhaps better embodiment of this national soul. In fact, it represents it from another side.
The sculpture was conceived as an embodiment of the spirit of the citizens of the city, as self-irony. But the Bulgarians know very well the greatest personification of this spirit - a hero from the books of a very famous Bulgarian writer, who glorified Bulgaria in a not very good light. And this sculpture looks very similar to this character.
So, Bulgarians do not stop surprising me with frankness and self-irony. At least in this city. And the sculptor in question, author of the two monuments, Mr. Tenev deserves admiration not only for his talent and skills, but also for his courage to show in such a clear way things that would rather be and are 'swept under the rug'.
