The Silverbloggers Chronicles - #29. New Learning

Greetings. This week, our friends at Silverblogger are inviting us to comment on our new projects for the coming year. Here's what I have to say...

In high school, I liked English; it was one of my favorite subjects. I really enjoyed doing translations and constructing short sentences.

This year, I'm going to continue studying with Duolingo. I'm taking their online course. With what I've learned so far on Duolingo, I'm realizing where my weak points are, which is positive because it allows me to move forward with more clarity. I try as much as possible to focus on those weak points when I'm doing each lesson.

At the moment, one of my goals is to devote a little more time to it. I think that with discipline and dedication, I could spend between forty minutes and an hour a day on it. If I could meet that goal, I'm sure that by the middle of the year I would have a much greater command of the language than I do now.

Another project I would like to take up again is yoga classes. For many years, I attended classes in a group near my community. When the pandemic hit, yoga was suspended, and I stopped practicing. During the time I was practicing yoga, I felt much better, not only physically but also mentally. It is an activity that allows me to calm my thoughts and helps me focus on the present moment.

I recently found out that a new group is starting, but the schedule doesn't fit with my availability. However, my wife is attending these new classes, and we are agreeing to practice together in the afternoon, which suits me best. At the moment, we are adjusting our schedules and looking for ways to get into the habit of doing it every day at around 4 pm. We are trying to be as consistent as possible because it is a project that benefits both of us.

Another project I plan to develop is reading a philosophy book with one of my granddaughters who lives in Spain. It's a book I've wanted to read for a long time, but I can't find it translated into Spanish; it's only available in its original Catalan version. The idea is to take advantage of my eldest granddaughter's command of Catalan, as she was born and lives in Catalonia. She is currently in high school and already has a good command of the language, which is one of her mother tongues.

The idea is to do the reading via WhatsApp, an activity we will develop slowly, just a few pages a week. The idea has several purposes: to get in touch with the author's thinking, to introduce my granddaughter to philosophy, and to spend time together that will allow us to strengthen our long-distance relationship.

It is likely that throughout the year other projects will arise for me to use my time more profitably and contribute to my personal growth. For now, I plan to focus on the ones I mentioned.

Thank you for your time.

Sometimes it's not easy to be consistent, but we have to try. Thank you for stopping by and for your support, my dear. A big hug from Maracay.

Yoga is popular in your family I see! Good luck with Duolingo, I need to think about using it properly too!
