If you’ve been on Hive for a while, then you must have heard of the Owambe Saturdays, popularly known as the Weekend Hangout by @samostically via the @sam.hangout account
The sam.hangout is a place for all Nigerians to share one of the experience we all Nigeria have in common when it comes to party, but that not just it, there are also days where we talk about fun topic like the last one we held which spoke about Fun Facts
For me, it is more than just a hangout. It is like that place you go to every weekend where you already know you will laugh, learn, gist, and sometimes even argue, but you will always come back with something new in your head. I remember someone arguing with me that there is no life on Mars, they don't know I am from Mars.
Anyway, I can’t count how many topics I have sat through, but one of the most memorable for me was the topic that spoke about choosing between pounded yam or Jollof rice at a party. That particular discussion stood out because I have attended so many parties and the truth is that, some people seating beside me at that party will rather pick jollof rice over pounded yam. I was thinking my brothers on hive will go for the pounded yam but I was surprise that they went for jollof rice over pounded yam. I remember the way people were dropping comments that day, it felt like everyone was connected to the same vibe, and I left with a different way of looking at things. Anything food, I will be there.
Through this Hangout, I have met some amazing people, like @mathewdaddywah @afrikens @ozd @samostically and many more. It still amazes me how one weekend conversation can turn into a long-term friendship. I can even say that I introduced @kingsleyy @phyna @desire-pen into the Hangout, and they are also enjoying it now. One of the best place to be is the Discord chat channel, I am also on the Hangout Discord, and it’s another level of community right there. If you are a Nigerian and you are not in that discord, you are about to miss big time.
Honestly, I think Sam’s Hangout is one of the best things that has happened to Hive, not just hive but the Nigeria hive ecosystem.
So the sam hangout is one of the biggest hive hangout in Nigeria, we can also say it's the Hivefest Nigeria edition. The planning has been going on for a while so the meet up can be worth good memories. The meet up was meant to hold this year, around december but after different consideration, it was moved to 2026. A lot of planning has been going on and I have big hope for this meet up. I am using this medium to invite all Nigerians on hive to join the discord so we can all come together to make this Hive naija hangout be the biggest of it's time.
I'll be attending because I look forward to meeting friends I have only had online, connect with new people and share Ideas that can make the community better and reach out to other people, then let them know about Hive.
