I don’t go to the gym, but I engage in other activities that help me stay fit, not just physically, but also mentally. Given how tough the country is, we must all find ways to ease our daily and weekly stress for the sake of our sanity.
Waking up early in the morning to head to the office, business premises, or engage in hard labor, only to return in the evening or at night completely exhausted, and sometimes in a bad mood due to the challenges faced during the day , is a typical scenario for the average Nigerian trying to survive. Yet, despite these struggles, it is essential to prioritize our health and well-being.
Physical well-being involves maintaining a healthy body and life through proper nutrition, regular exercise, and rest.

Mental well-being relates to emotional and psychological health. It involves managing stress and maintaining a positive mindset and healthy relationships.
Personally, I don’t joke with my health, and most importantly, my peace of mind. After a stressful day or week, I make sure to do the following:
First and foremost, I take a cold shower, eat, and rest. Although I’m not very good at observing siesta, even if I can’t sleep, I simply put on the fan, lie down, and relax. Later in the evening, I make an effort to go out for a long walk around nearby streets to ensure I sweat a little before heading back home for another refreshing bath.
Another activity I never joke with, and which works perfectly for me, is finding a peaceful sit-out with dim lighting and soft music. In the evening, I sit there, listen to the music, and enjoy the fresh natural air. Sometimes, I take a bottle of soft drink or juice. Although I mostly do this on Sundays, whenever I feel extremely stressed, I make time for it. This practice helps me calm my mind, regain my energy, and restore my sanity.
Additionally, I sometimes visit a park or an open space. After resting from my daily work, I go to an open field, sit there, and enjoy the fresh air. While doing so, I put on my earphones and listen to music, allowing myself to relax completely.
I understand that everyone has their own way of dealing with stress, but if you haven’t found yours yet, now is the right time to do so. Considering the way things are going in this country, prioritizing our well-being is no longer an option, it’s a necessity.
