We are built differently, and the environment, world, or culture we grow up in has a lot to contribute to the values we hold dear.
Respect: Respect is one of the core values that I hold dearly in my heart. It's part of my personality, and it can't just leave no matter how hard a situation tries to push it away. The village and environment where I was brought up don’t joke with respect. I was born in the age when it was a taboo for a child to insult or speak mannerless to an elder. If a child was seen doing so, the people around would boldly flog the child. This and many other cautions were how the spirit of respect was instilled in us.
I'm the type that you can barely see having a hot argument with an elderly person because, in the midst of the hot argument, I might lose it and say words that may appear as an insult to the elderly person. Anytime I notice something is leading in that direction, I will stop. You can barely see me saying trash about other people's opinions. I respect other people's opinions and maintain that respect as I voice out my own opinion too.
Another core value I hold onto is Saying No to Stealing. In this world where stealing in various forms has become a way of life and people no longer see the bad in it, I do not engage in stealing, and that has opened many doors for me because I have people who can vouch for me on that and recommend me to others or places. I cannot get involved in cheating, even though people say that everyone on earth cheats. I feel very bad if I'm cheated or when something is stolen from me, and when I imagine myself giving someone else such pain, I shake my head and thank God I can't do that.
