Anyway, it depends on the size of yam your aunty planted, again you must make sure the yams are not a kind of buried too deep in the sack.
Plant them not too deep, and not too much outside. Then as they're growing fill up some sand once and again for them to have surplus sand to bear.
Make sure you lift the vines tied to long sticks for them to climb up, yam is a creeping plant, don't allow the vine creep on the ground.
If possible, add a little fertilizer to support themselves, these are some tips and the demands she can apply.
