Around 3:46 p.m. today, a friend of mine finally opened up about something she had been finding difficult to tell me since yesterday. She said I should link her up with any money lender because she wanted to borrow money from me for something extremely important. That was the first time I was hearing her say something like that, because her boyfriend is well-to-do, and her parents also take good care of her.
So I started thinking, trying to analyze what could be wrong to the extent that she does not want to let her parents know. I concluded that she might be pregnant and looking for a way out, but then, if that were the case, her boyfriend should be responsible for everything. However, she said no, she is not pregnant and still refused to tell me the “important thing” she needed the money for.
I suggested that she use online money-lending apps, but she is scared of the kind of public dragging those apps are known for. After some back and forth, I suggested that she sell her phone to settle whatever "important issue" she needs the money for. She is currently using an iPhone 16 Plus, and that is a huge amount of money if sold to handle her urgent financial needs.
"You’re not serious! I guess you don’t know I’m making plans to upgrade this 16 to 17 and…" she paused, and I felt she knew where I was heading.
"If the financial need you are facing is truly very important, then selling off your phone and switching to a less expensive one will not be a big deal," I added, and she did not respond again. Maybe she was provoked by the volume of truths I was telling her, but I do not care either.
But, to face the bitter truth, there is nothing wrong with selling one’s phone in order to tackle financial pressure. Can I sell mine? No ooh!
