Football can be funny sometimes. A player who looked like an important signing one season can suddenly find himself on the edge of the squad the next. That seems to be the situation Axel Disasi is facing at Chelsea currently.
Reports suggest Crystal Palace are preparing an official move for the French defender after selling Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea. If the transfer goes through, it could end Disasi's short and rather mixed spell at Stamford Bridge.

I personally don't think Disasi is a bad defender. In fact, there were games where he showed leadership, strength in the air, and the willingness to fight for the badge. But playing for Chelsea comes with enormous expectations. Every mistake is magnified, and consistency is everything. Unfortunately, Disasi never truly convinced enough people that he should be a guaranteed starter.
With Xabi Alonso reportedly not seeing him as part of his plans, staying at Chelsea might only mean spending more time on the bench. For a player in his prime, regular football is much more valuable than simply being part of a big club. Crystal Palace could offer him exactly that.
From Palace's point of view, the move also makes sense. They have just lost an important defender in Lacroix, and replacing him with someone who has Premier League experience could help them remain competitive. Disasi already understands the pace and physical demands of English football, so he would not need much time to adapt.
As a Chelsea fan, I believe this transfer would also help the club continue reshaping the squad. Alonso appears to have a clear vision of the type of defenders he wants, and keeping players who are not part of that vision rarely benefits anyone. Selling Disasi would free up wages, create room in the squad, and possibly provide funds for future signings.
Interestingly, there are also reports that clubs in Italy are monitoring the situation. That could create healthy competition if Chelsea decides to sell. Whether he ends up at Crystal Palace or elsewhere, I genuinely hope Disasi finds a club where he can rebuild his confidence and play consistently.
Sometimes a transfer is not about failure, but it's about finding the right environment. Not every player is destined to succeed at every club, and that's perfectly normal in football. If this move happens, I think it has the potential to be one of those deals where everyone walks away satisfied. Chelsea can continue building under Alonso, Palace get an experienced replacement, and Disasi gets the fresh start he needs.
