I have been hard at delivery driving and took a break and bought me a late lunch. I had originally planned to go somewhere else but the place I had in my mind I found out is closed on Monday. I decided to choose a place called Freddy's, as an alternative.
Freddy's is a franchise that was established in Wichita, Kansas, in 2002. Today there are over 560 locations in 37 States. Texas leads the way with the most locations.
The place tries to portray a kind of 1950s feel. The place is usually pretty full but I went at about 2:30 p.m. so things are slow. A cool fact is that Bingo is played at this one every 4th Tuesday of the month. To play you just have to buy meal. A game is played every 30 minutes from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Yes, prizes are won and I can't tell you what because I have never participated.
The place serves a few different kind of burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, and of course a few different varieties of frozen custard. If you get a combo, you get your choice of fries, tator tots or kettle chips. For a little extra you can also sub any of them out for cheese curds.
I chose the grilled cheese steak burger with fries. The burgers includes two steak patties, two each of american & swiss cheese, crispy bacon, tomato spread paste all in between two slices of Texas toast. The fries are the thin straw type fries. The fries are perfect for dipping the fry sauces you pick up at the condiment counter. I got one of each of the three you can get. The ketchup was reserved for dipping my sandwich into.
The three types of fry sauce are the original fry sauce, jalapeño sauce and smoky sauce. I like all three so I got all three, haha. The original is really mild I would say it's like a mixture of mayonnaise and ketchup with a spice of something else. The jalepeno one is not all that hot in my opinion. You can really taste the jalepeno flavor. The smoked one is super tasty and yes it has a nice smoked flavor.
The burger and fries was quite filling. I think I paid nearly $13.00 for this. I got a drink with it as well, it was just a unsweet tea. When I first walked in the door I was already thinking of how I was going to taste some frozen custard. I felt I needed to treat myself to something sweet!
Here we are, time for the hardiest pick. You can get a shake, concrete mixer (malt like), sundae, cone or dish. You can create your own or get a signature one. There is only two flavors of custard (vanilla & chocolate). Sizes are mini, regular and large.
I decided on a regular sized Strawberry Dream Cake sundae. It did not at all have the appearance of what I was expecting. The person who made it put a tad bit too much of crumbles on top. I was watching and I was like holy cripes. Maybe they thought I said Strawberry crumble cake 😆 A spoonful of crumbles would have been ideal, but they used a scoop cup. I'm sure it was a mistake. I had to push some of it to the side to eat, it was thick. After a while, I just had to eat a spoonful or two of crumbles.
Here are some better representation of this dessert. It includes vanilla custard, cheesecake pieces, strawberry puree, and cinnamon streusel (aka crumbles). Upon getting past the streusel, I noticed they over did the strawberry puree 😆 I wasn't going to throw a fit maybe this person was new. All in all it was still good just a little work to get a taste of everything in one bite. The cost was around $6.00 after tax.
Probably a 6 out 10 experience for me today. I've been here numerous times before and can easily say its a 8 out 10. The food was good but one shouldn't have to work to get thier treat down. Once a quarter of the sundae was gone I really got to start enjoying it. I'll be back another time but it may be awhile.
That's all I have for you today. Take care, stay safe and bites away! Until next time!
