I love Christmas, and when I was little I really wanted a Christmas tree, but there were other needs at home, so every year I waited to see when we could buy one. Meanwhile, my sister would find a big branch and decorate it with white soap, and we'd put some ornaments on it. I wanted a tree so that Baby Jesus would have somewhere to leave my present.
The tradition we always kept in my home was my mother's favorite: the Nativity scene. Ours wasn't very big, but it had a very special piece that had been sent to my mother from Spain: a large image of Baby Jesus.
It's a beautiful figure, and it always looked quite large in the nativity scene next to the figures of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. My mother sewed it a little robe from the fabric that had been my daughter's christening gown.
The image shows signs of wear from age; my mother repainted it and fixed the imperfections when she was alive. She used to have her grandchildren kiss the little foot after the rosary.
When my children were born, I was finally able to buy a big Christmas tree, and they enjoyed it immensely. Their gifts from Baby Jesus would appear under the tree every December 24th. But my children grew up, and the woman who helped me clean my house told me she didn't have a Christmas tree, so without thinking twice, I gave it to her so she could make her grandchildren happy.

A mi me encanta la navidad y cuando era pequeña deseaba mucho tener un árbol de navidad, pero había otras necesidades en mi casa así que cada año esperaba a ver cuando podíamos comprar uno. Mientras tanto mi hermana buscaba una gran rama y la decoraba con jabón blanco y le poníamos algunos adornos, yo quería tener un árbol para que el niño Jesús tuviera donde dejar mi regalo.
La costumbre que siempre conservamos en mi hogar era la que más le gustaba a mi mamá y era el nacimiento del niño Jesús. El nuestro no era muy grande pero tenia una pieza muy especial que a mi madre se la habían enviado de España y era la imagen de un gran niño Jesús.
Es una figura hermosa y siempre quedaba muy grande en el nacimiento al lado de la figura de la Virgen María y San José. Mi mamá le cosió una batica de la tela que era una capa del bautizo de mi hija.
La imagen tiene desgaste por el tiempo, mi mamá cuando estaba viva lo pinto y arreglo los detalles que tenía. Ella ponía a los nietos a besar el piecito después del rosario.
Cuando nacieron mis hijos al fin pude comprar un gran árbol de navidad y ellos lo disfrutaron muchísimo, sus regalos del niño Jesús aparecían debajo del árbol cada 24 de diciembre. Pero mis hijos crecieron y la señora que me ayudaba a limpiar mi hogar me comento que no tenia árbol de navidad, así que sin pensarlo mucho se lo regale para que hiciera felices a sus nietos.
