Hive Community Planning Progress

in Ecency11 days ago

The planning continues as I brainstorm and formulate a strategy for creating the communty I envision. I have the idea. I've gathered feedback from members of #thealliance. I've chatted with some whales in the Hive Discord channel about their view of short form content. The general consensus is with rules in place to avoid plagiarism, copypasta, spam, AI and non-citation of sources, nobody would be opposed to the idea.

(Created with Bing)

I asked if anyone knew of any Hive communities that grew on their own without a whale to curate posts. Nobody could think of any. I'm far from a whale, but that doesn't mean there aren't ways around this.

Delegations
Rather than buy a massive amount of HIVE, I could take on HP leases. I'd pay out 80-90% of curation rewards for these delegations and slowly build additional HP with the 10-20% left over. To avoid this affecting my personal account, the logical step for this would be to create a separate curation account for this.

Funds
The question is then where do the funds for the liquid HIVE come from? I'm currently running a silver/gold raffle where people can buy tickets for a chance to win silver or gold from my personal collection. I pay the shipping, everyone gets to have fun in the raffle, and this gives me funds to pay delegators until the curation rewards start coming in and I can keep the project going from doing power downs.

I doubt I'll get enough delegations to get into whale territory, but with the funds I have now I could see the curation account being a decent sized orca that could hand out $0.50-0.60 upvotes. It's not massive, but it is substantial. I may consider other rewards as well, such as other H-E tokens, HSBI, etc. It's all still a work in progress, but I think the project is viable.

Let me know in the comments if you like these ideas, hate them, etc. I appreciate any and all feedback.

A delegation community could work to get the community up and running.
Pay a small fee that you can use for hp

Could DUO be used to support?
I'm not sure what you could achieve with it. But its an onboarding idea.

Could you create your own front end?
Just nicer than what is currently out there?
No idea on costs though, but i remeber someone in Hive discord mentioning the free front end builder

Good luck man and let me know when you are live

The only downside I see to having someone delegate or pay to post or be in the community is people would probably be less likely to join unless they knew they were going to get back what they're paying into it.

I'm not really a coder, so I don't think I'd create my own front end, but I appreciate the feedback and ideas!

If it wouldn't be too much to check for, you could always make the community a paid community. Like 0.1 HBD pr month or something cheap, so you still get a good group of people into the community but also get some funds to get delegations or extra delegations.

There is always the dividend paying tokens you can go for. Its passive, but it takes a while though to get something meaningful.

Like your own DUO, but also DAB, EDSI, PANDA or PAKX :D

Or you can talk to community/token leaders about getting a token delegations from them and talk about burning 90% of what you get and sell the last 10% for extra hive to help fund the delegations.

You could ofc, also sell a token. But from what I have heard/seen then it takes alot of effort for it to not collaps in price, unless the project buys it back and sells it. You properly know more about having a token than I do :D

I hadn't thought about a paid community. It's certainly an interesting idea, although I don't know how well-received it would be when everywhere else is free.

I thought about the token idea and it may be an option. It would take more time though, so I may save that for a few months into starting things.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas!

I know. It can be a hard sell on Hive, when everything is free. But why does everything have to be free? :D

@drawmatic is a weekly lottery which runs automatically.
Not sure if that can be used in some way in the community :D

That's a great idea with Drawmatic! I may have to look into incorporating that and maybe HSBI as well.

HSBI could work aswell.
Drawmatic is just a smaller project, so it could be awesome if more people joined it :D

You could also use the benefical thing on posts, but I have seen community leaders get in trouble for that before.
Maybe because they traded votes for that benefical. Dno.

I think HiveCN uses benefical

I didnt know that was possible.
A subscription based community.

Well, you can properly code a bot to look at memos and with the correct amount of HBD or you can do it manually.

I dont think you can stop people from posting in your community whether or not they have paid.

Oh there.. That does it.

Tho it might work for some kind of premium content.
May be a show or services etc.

Well maybe. But you really cant lock things behind a paywall that well here on Hive xD

Exactly..
The way it works here.. Everyone sees your market.

Ye. Its good, thats what Hive is build on :D

I like your ideas and I agree with you that most people seem to be attracted to short form content. For me, it's a given that you will create your own frontend. In which case advertising is available as a revenue stream. I've completed the Proof Of Concept for long form Hive content deployed at zero cost. So it must be fairly easy to do this for short form.

Thanks! I may consider my own front end at some point, but to start I think I'd keep it simple.

I was hoping that the pub could start getting enough attention that some of the curation groups might visit it from time to time, but that seems to be really slow going. I don't know if it will ever happen unless I suddenly become a whale myself. I wish you a ton of luck!

You might try reaching out to them in Discord. I think the biggest issue is curators have their own methods and they tend to not deviate from them much mostly as a time saving measure.

Thanks! I think The Pub is awesome, so don't give up! 😁

Yeah, that is a good point. I just didn't want to be begging or annoying, so I was hoping it would just kid of happen naturally. If we start to get some more content, perhaps I will take a more active roll!

I think it's an awesome idea and can't wait to see how it comes out. I'll be glad to offer my support!

Es un gran desafío crear una comunidad sin una 'ballena' que la respalde, pero es justamente lo que hace que un proyecto sea auténtico.

It is a great challenge to create a community without a 'whale' backing it, but that is exactly what makes a project authentic.

Very true. My plan is to curate it without a whale but still with a decent sized upvote.
