RE: Ecency waves Jul 11

Reading thousands of books taught me what worked—and what didn’t. When I finally sat down to write my own, I realized talent wasn’t enough. Success required a system. Ask for link

Sort:

Is it related to finance?

Yes and writing. Do you need a link?

Sure, I would give it to my dad he likes such stuff.

@zoe01 did you give the links to your father?

Here is another article I just published recently https://vscampbell.com/2026/07/how-i-wrote-9-novels-in-6-years-while-running-2-businesses-my-writing-system/

Thanks! Yes, I did. He's away on a business trip, so I hope he'll have some free time to read it.

No problem. I can wait

Great. Please let me know his comment.

Here are a couple of links

I needed persistence as well.

Do you need a link to join?

I'd be interested in learning more.

Great. Please let me know your comment.

Sorry, I missed the links. I'll look at them and your post later.

I've looked at your links and your latest post.
Your four-step system for writing a book is impressive. I would be interested in knowing where you publish your books.
I have considered using Udemy. Have you had a good response?
The choice between using human and AI narrators is tricky, as are many of the ways that AI is used.

We just published the Udemy course and are doing that marketing. So far the response has been fantastic. Seeing that convert to class enrollment takes a little time, but we’re excited.
I publish my books on Amazon, but I have never promoted them through that system. Mostly I keep them there so I can purchase them for book fairs and handouts. Amazon is a tricky platform, since they give away so many books there is little incentive for readers to purchase there unless you are being promoted by a big-name celebrity or you are one yourself. They sell about 800 million books annually but have 40 million listed. There are a few authors who sell a large number, meaning that the typical number of books sold by average authors on Amazon is shockingly low, I think around 10 per year.

Instead of focusing on that venue, if income is your goal, there are other ways to market your work. I talk about those in an upcoming class on marketing and promotion. The issue is that even authors who sell many books make little money. Mostly we do this out of passion. We have developed a method for increasing title awareness over the years, and I remain convinced that it is the key.
First, become a skilled writer and editor.
Second, build up your library of work.
Third, work on submitting to reader sites to build a following.
All of this should be done using a method that systematically combines your efforts into a seamless workflow. If you don’t start with the right system, you will find issues later that require rewriting and editing of your work up to that point. This is especially true when you begin converting your books to audio. From the start of your first paragraph, you should be planning on audio production.
I hope this helps, and I look forward to seeing you in class!

Thanks for your detailed response. I'm going to be concentrating on publishing on LearningPages.org - most products are linked to Gumroad, but I will be selling directly once I've set up a secure 'successful payments' page.

The thing most writers may not understand is that 98% of writers have flaws in their work that makes it difficult to get great ratings. Editors are expensive and also miss things. I am going back through the first 4 books. Just got done with my reviews and are incorporating the edits. It is funny how many things I and my editor missed as we originally published the books but using my new method I catch them. Many of them.

I hope the inspiration you've had continues to flow for new projects.

Thank you
