If you've never heard of the term "doomscrolling," it's just what you'd think it sounds like. It's a cycle where you find yourself endlessly scrolling on your phone, computer or some other device, mindlessly staring at content. Some of it can be good content, but it's overwhelmingly garbage. That doesn't make it bad, but when you can't break away it becomes problematic.

The reason I bring this up is because it happened to me earlier tonight. I wanted to de-stress and figured randomly scrolling on Reddit would help until I thought of something I wanted to post about. Wrong! If anything, it seems to hinder the creative part of the brain that generates ideas.
It wasn't until I set my phone down that I realized I had just spent an hour scrolling through 99% garbage. Sure, there were some interesting things, like seeing a picture of a gold vein about two inches thick embedded in a solid wall of quartz, but outside of that it's nothing but clickbait.
If you find yourself struggling to write about something, do yourself a favor and put down the phone. Turn off the monitor or TV. Go for a walk, play a game of Solitaire with a pack of cards, or just sit, close your eyes and let your mind wander. You'll be better for it and feel refreshed.
