Do you think you’re truly living your life the way you want, avoiding what you dislike? Or is there someone behind the scenes controlling your life? You might find this question surprising but if you sit quietly and think about it so you’ll realize that a large part of what you do or even a small part you don’t fully believe in. There are many reasons why you act this way, whether you’re aware of it or not.
What struck me most is how many people blindly copy the latest trends without caring if they’re good or not. They do it in a way that feels forced and not genuine. Most of these people are young generations and I see kids under 10 copying strange hairstyles and colors of famous singers or wearing ripped pants just like popular artists.
At first, this wasn’t a big deal as TV and posters were the main influence. But now, with TikTok and social media this copying has grown a lot. We end up doing things that don’t really reflect who we are. Even girls copy makeup styles from celebrities that don’t suit their look. Social media’s influence has gone far beyond phones and is spreading everywhere.
One of the biggest problems now is this blind copying of what we see online or from famous people. While there are many good things to imitate like a doctor who saved a life and a programmer who created a great idea or an engineer with a successful project and these positive examples make up less than 1% of what we see online. That’s because most people don’t interact much with these good stories so they don’t get shown widely.
Unfortunately, algorithms on these platforms show us what most people like, and since most prefer entertainment, songs, trends, funny clips and there’s little chance to see useful or meaningful content unless you actively search for it.
The truth is, this copying isn’t always unconscious but sometimes I find myself doing things just because others do them so I don’t seem different or alone even if I don’t agree with it. I don’t want to argue or get strange looks from people. But of course, this doesn’t apply to everything as there are many actions people do that don’t make sense at all.
The solution lies in raising awareness in society that blind copying isn’t helpful and blindly following trends doesn’t represent who we truly are. It should start at home with parents guiding their kids. When a child copies someone without thinking, they become like robots, and this is dangerous for them. So it begins with family guidance then spreading awareness in the community.
