Failure, What Failure? | #3

in Reflections22 days ago

Hello Fam! Yesterday we talked about gratitude, today let’s change the script and welcome failure as our new friend. Sounds odd? Like who in the world wants to celebrate screwed-up moments? But stick with me. You won’t regret it, you are handed a free lesson that success can’t teach.

The ooPS

Remember the last time you spilled tea on your laptop? Or maybe sent an email to the boss with a lot of typo? That embarrassment isn’t just a feeling but a signal. It tells you where you might need a helping. Without those “oops” moments, we would be walking down the same straight road.

A Little Story

Last year, I tried to host an official trip for my department and it went mediocre. Why? I failed to manage the Billings and I had to pay from my pocket. I was heart broken for sure. But, I didn’t give up. I jot down my mistakes and fields of lacking. I also did a lot of research and contacted some useful hands through my social media accounts. Thanks to their support. Today, my trips (and many other managing things) go smoothly, people even ask me for my “secrecy recipe.” That setback was the secret recipe for me.

Three Steps

  1. Rename it: Instead of “I messed up, ” just say “I tried or I experimented.” Because whether we win or we learn.
  2. Write it Down: Right after a setback, note it down. Write at least three things that went well and one or two that need some rehearsing.
  3. Sharing is Caring: Tell a friend or a parent about what happened. Open up a bit, tell them how you feel and what’s the reason behind it. You will see not only does it lighten your mood, it reminds everyone that perfection is overrated.

Today’s mini challenge is to pick one recent flop (a big or small one) and write a “failure report.” Write down anything even the bullet points will help. Give answer to these questions:

• What surprised you?
• Which new skill could you build?
•Who might be able to help you?

Then share that note with someone you trust. You will feel great and moments of “oops” will turn into future “oh-yeah.”
Just remember life is not a straight line. It’s a mix of win and learn. Just embrace these both moments, you will find yourself moving forward. Learn from these experiences armed with real insights you can’t buy in any book. Go ahead and kill the waves 🌊.

Peace 🕊
