Hello to all friends in the Visual Snapshots community. This is my first post here and I hope I can do it. I love taking pictures of historical landmarks. On a trip to France, I had a 2-hour boat trip in the city of Lyon on the Soane River. What impressed me the most was the island of Ile Barbe and the old bridges that connect it to the coast. I was not on the island but I managed to take photos of the surroundings and since I did not understand the guide, I found the information myself and I will briefly write something about the island and the bridges and also share the photos with you.Île Barbe ("wild island"), once uninhabited, later became a refuge for Druids and Christians.Today, the island is divided into a public part (a park with paths and trees) and a private part with old villas and gardens. The building seen in the photos is the Restaurant du Rocher (Restaurant on the Rock) and Located on the very edge of the island, it was known for its exceptional cuisine. The restaurant recently closed permanently in 2022, but the building still dominates surrounded by the calm waters of the Saone and lush vegetation that provides a sense of isolation from the hustle and bustle of Lyon. The island is connected to the coast by two suspension bridges, the Pont de l'Île-Barbe and the Pont Masaryk. In order not to write the history of both bridges, I will tell you that the bridges are very old and that only pedestrians can cross on the first bridge, and pedestrians and cyclists on the second. Let's look at the photos.
