It's Fun When You Win By Unpredicted Variable

Greeting Fellow Summoners

I am back again with my Splinterlands post. In this opportunity I will continue about what I have post before. It is about winning by a tight margin from a stronger opponent.

I am a casual player, so I do not have or own great selection of units. I only have those who are popular and frequently used due to large availability and cheap pricing lol. So beating someone stronger than me always give me a great feeling.

Shout out for @zusi78 who often come and read my post. In this current condition, we need to support each other active Splinterlands writers, by commenting on their post, supporting their post, and share some thoughts together. so I am giving an HSBI point as he is one of the active Splinterlands writers here.

I hope this small gesture of appreciation could encourage him to keep on writing, as I have lost many good buddies from Splinterlands game due to retiring.

So for today post, who will be a great opponent whom I choose the battle that I was winning there? Let's pick one from my survival mode battles...

Yes this is the battle I choose, of course the winning one. It was the battle against @shawnnft , a Splinterlands player from Malaysia. He used to be very active writing about Splinterlands, talking everywhere including on Twitch. Yeah those were good old days. Anyway I was happy to see his tumor surgery was successful, I had a cyst surgery before so I could understand how irritating it was although it was not a life threatening one.

He have won more battles against me than losing from me, so I could say he was a better one. His cards selection is a better than me, but let's not focus on that part. I prefer to talk about tactic and meta, it's the fun part. I am not interested talking about the great selection regarding it could bring some stupid players who keep blaming pay to win stuff lol.

I do not care whether you play for free or pay to win, as long you have fun with Splinterlands, that what matters most. Anyway if you wonder why I have that battles from 5 days ago, actually I haven't played survival mode for 4 days. So today is the first day I get back to survival mode. Now let see the battle that I have won there

The Battle

This is the battle I pick (and I picked this because I won this one lol). I found this one funny, because both of us already knew that we were going with Marlai Singariel meta. we could say that both of us came with similar meta. Not exactly the same, but it was similar because

  1. We used the same summoner
  2. Both of us had 3 same units in the line up and one non magic unit.
  3. Both of us prepared to face a full magic team.
  4. Both of us tried to have an alternative attack aiming their backline. I used Surge Hammer to launch opportunity attacks killing their weakest backline, and he used Torrent Sniper to snipe backline non melee unit.
  5. Both of us brought a healer. I had Anasth Soothsayer and he had Jilcaria the Rime which was the stronger version that Anasth Soothsayer

In general we could say that his team or his units were better. Similar meta + better units = winning... That's the formula right? I agreed with that however there was an unpredicted variable there that made me won that battle.

So How Come I won?

It was simple, math wise, I had 3 more magic damage, right? hell no, it looked like that one, but their tank was an idle anti magic one, so it did not do that way. So let see round by round then, to get where it went wrong for him.

The start of second round told us about how the first round ran. Both of us lost a unit. They lost Daigendark Surveyor and I lost my Mindless Thrall. Actually I lost two units however Abyssal Elemental had a resurgence ability so he could get revived back at maximum health again.

The second round, it was still an equal force between us. We ended the second round with both of us having 4 units, and half of our units were badly wounded. However the third round my team turned the table around..

At this point, my team was winning. Could you see where things got wrong?

Round 5 the battle was decided for my team. We won this battle despite we were losing initially and their team had better units. It's all because one variable that we did not notice before...

Did you notice it before? if you did not, let me show you now...

The small variable that we did not predict it before was the positioning. if Shawn put Kaori Matsune behind, he could win. If he put Mystic Scaleweaver behind Mindless Thrall, he could increase the odd to win too. If he did both, he would have come as the winner.

This change would make him optimize his healing effect. It was useless to keep your healer as the last, regarding she would be a punching bag due to her small attack power. Did he make the wrong order? Actually he did not, I believed it was a wise decision to put Jilcaria the Rime on the most behind one, because she would be the backline tank from sneak attack... which was too bad I did not make any sneak attack

I believe he had made that move because I often use Tydal Tsunamist... or maybe I am just thinking too much. Well it was a great battle, and yes I won in a small margin due to that unpredicted variable... which was I am going gang ho all to their frontline.

What do you think about this one? I am looking forward for your opinion so feel free to express your opinion about them here and see you next time guys!

Great battle and some twist as well. When you took out your opponent monster,Surveyor by Mindless Thrall, I thought it was going to be roller coaster for you. But he cane back strong, even with resurgence from your Abyssal. And when it was 3 versus 2 in your favor,I knew it was game over for your opponent.

Another big plus for you was Mystic Scaleweaver, Scaling up its magic attack to +4 during cleanse and healing performed by Anasth soothsayer. It was really a game changer.👏

Lastly, thank you for mentioning how active I’ve been in the community and for the HSBI gift — it’s such a thoughtful present. I am truly honored and appreciative.🤗

Scaleweaver is an underated card, too bad his max level is only 2. Anyway you're welcome, I often give HSBI gift to some people. I think it is better than upvoting some post just for a return love lol.
