Hello Splinterlands community! The community challenge for this week is to create and design a brand-new game mode for Splinterlands. This is a great initiative as it allows the community to bring something new and exciting to the game and this gives everyone to share their idea that can improve the game. I have a good idea for a brand-new game mode which I hope could be introduce in the game someday and I will tell more about this brand-new game mode I am thinking for the game. I think this game mode could bring a different competitive player experience in the game and perhaps attract more players to try the game.

Double-Up

The brand-new game mode I would like to introduce in the game is called Double-Up

📝 How It Works:

The Double-Up game mode is essentialy a two on two battles or tag team battle game mode which allows players to team up with their friends, family or loved-ones and compete against another paired-up players. It brings a new flavor in the game as the current setup of the game primarily focuses on 1 on 1 match-up and having a new game mode such as Double-Up allows players to compete side by side with their partner and this will certainly bring a brand new experience to the new users as well as to the veteran players in the game that are hungry for a different type of competition.

Since this game mode is designed for two on two battles, a solo player can still queue in this game mode and will be paired to a random solo player based on their current rankings. They will also matched-up against players that are also went solo on the queueing making this game mode fair for players that teams up with their friends and for those players who are brave enough to play with random people. This game mode can also introduce and create friendships as a player can invite their recent foe to join up and compete in Double-Up game mode which I think strengthens the camaraderie between players in the game.

This game mode also brings a different approach from the usual gameplay as this game mode introduces 6 monsters and 2 summoners on each team where the buff or debuff from two summoners will take affect on all the units on your team or the enemy team depending on the circumstances of the summoner which further boosts all units before the match begins. The match starts where both players will select a summoner of their choice and each player will also be able to select up to three units each. The positioning of this units will be decided by both players during the preparation stage as both players will be able to see all the selected units in real time and they can adjust the order of the selected units as needed. The mana pool for the match is also shared by both players which means a total cooperation and coordination is very essential for this game mode. If your partner was not able to select a summoner or units before timer on the preparation stage ends, the match will be forfeited and only your partner will receive a negative points for the forfeiture loss and you will receive 0 points as a result of it.

🎁 Rewards:

What rewards would players earn?

The rewards that the players can earn from playing and winning Double-Up battles will be similar to other game modes which is SPS.

However since this game mode introduces a brand new strategy and team compositions in the game, the existing summoners and monsters could be too overpower to play for this game mode since two summoners will take affect on the start of the match which could make a certain monster unstoppable or perhaps a cheat code for this game mode. Because of this, I am also proposing having a separate card set for this game mode which is somehow similar with the Gladius Cards that can only be used on Guild Brawls on normal circumstances.

I would like to call this brand new set for Double-Up game mode the 'Synergy Set'. This brand new set will compose of summoners and monsters that are specifically tailored for tag team battles so that the monsters in this set would be balanced and not too much powerful after the buff from the two summoners take affect at the start of the match. I think it is beneficial if there is a daily quest for this game mode that needs to be accomplished and if it is completed the players will get a 'Alliance Pack' which contains 5 cards from the Synergy Set

Additionally, I would like for this game mode to have an end of season rewards as well where the top players in the leaderboards would receive multiple 'Alliance Packs' and also have a chance to earn a gold foil legendary Synergy card based on their position on the leaderboards.

⬆️ Why It Would Improve Splinterlands:

I think this game mode would improve Splinterlands in different ways.

First the introduction of tag team battle format will bring a new experience for the players and as mentioned above it will introduce cooperative gameplay strategy among the players which could attract more players to try the game.

Second this game mode allows players to play with their friends together to climb the rankings which means that the top players in the leaderboard could be from the same guild making the competition very tough.

Third as mentioned on the rewards, the addition of a new set particularly for this game mode would introduce a brand new rewarding experience for the players as the daily rewards from playing Double-Up would earn them 'Alliance Pack' which gives them cards from the new set and further grows their card collection in the game

Lastly this game mode can also be used for creating a pocket tournament within the game where players will register as a tag team all throughout the tournament where the grand winner of the tournament will receive huge prizes such as tag team titles

Mock-Ups

I have also prepared some mock-ups with the help of AI to give a visual representation on to my ideas for the brand-new game mode I would like to introduce in the game which is Double-Up. I used the existing visuals and interface inside the game and applied the concepts I had to show how the tag team battle format in the game would actually look like.

Matchmaking Screen:

This is a visual concept on how the matchmaking would look like if you team up with your friends and goes for a 2 on 2 battles with other duos currently in the queue. If you play solo for this game mode you will be paired to a random solo player in the queue as well.

Preparation/Drafting Stage:

This is how I imagine on how the preparation stage would look like if both players could select a summoner and as mentioned above both players will be able to select up to 3 units and they will share the total mana pool and both players could decide the positioning of their selected units before submitting their team for the battle.

Battle Screen:

This is a sample representation on how the battle screen could look like where both teams would have two summoners for the match and as I mentioned above both summoners would take affect for each team before the match starts.
