Greetings to all Splinterlands players! In this week's Community Engagement Challenge, we will look into the the new free-to-play or f2p format in Splinterlands or better known as The Frontier.
The Frontier Format is completely free to play. A player just needs Foundation cards to play this format. Therefore a player needs to complete the campaign missions first to get the first set of cards.
After that, the player can build his deck by earning more Foundation set cards from playing the Frontier Mode daily. Fifteen wins from playing Splinterlands games daily is all it takes to earn the maximum amount of reward chests per day and then it will reset the next day. Not only from daily reward chests, players can also earn more Foundation cards from advancing to the next league.
I have been playing the Frontier Format since it was launched and I already earned cards and advanced in league. I think I will play this format more since I'm matched with opponents with equal strength and deck as I have. By playing and winning more battles then I can build a stronger deck. This means the more time I play, the stronger my deck will become.
Playing the Frontier Format
The Frontier Format of play can be found the same way, in Play>Ranked
Then you have to choose "Frontier" in the format you want to play in.
Choosing "Frontier" will take you to a new screen. As you can see below, reward chests are given for every five wins. These rewards are given at a maximum of three per day or fifteen wins daily and then it will reset the next day. This will give players progression the more they play. Each day is an opportunity to earn more cards and make your collection stronger by chances of combining them and levelling them up. In this way, the Foundation cards are similar to Gladiator cards. They can only be obtained by playing the game. They cannot be bought, at least for now.
I haven't done my battles for today and I have almost a full energy bar. I think I can win fifteen games with the amount of energy I have.
A few minutes later...
I played a lot of games and they are challenging! It's frustrating because I lost a lot and drained my energy. There are a lot of veteran players joining the Frontier format and they countered my team a lot of times. Nevertheless, I played on and my patience was rewarded with six new cards including a new Earth element epic card!
Glimmermancer is an Earth element epic card with two magic attacks. It has some four lives and rather slow with only two speed. It has no skills, a rather disappointing card if you expect more from an epic card.
An Opponent with Strong Cards
I thought that Frontier Format, all players will have the same set of cards but I encountered an opponent with more advanced cards! To start, his archon is already at level two. Also, he has a new legendary and epic card that most players don't have yet. I wonder how he got these cards or if he got these cards from reward chests. He is extremely lucky since the Frontier format has just started.
The game has Counterspell and Briar Patch in the rules. I avoided using melee and magic cards but I have a couple of melee cards in the team. One has healing and the other has taunt skill. I planned for the one with taunt skill to draw attacks. Most of my damage dealers are archers. The opponent has almost the same strategy but my archers have more attack even though his are unique cards.
My plan worked. Most of his attacks went to my taunt unit. After it died, he attacked my frontline but it has healing. My frontline was stronger as well as my attackers. This led to my win in the game.
