Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Power Plays – My Card Combos

in Splinterlands6 days ago

Greetings to all Splinterlands players!

The Community Engagement Challenge for this week is to show favorite combos. Somebody commented that inspite of my name, I play Splinterlands instead of chess. I replied that both games share a lot in common and I play both. Both games require strategic thinking and planning ahead to anticipate the opponent's moves. In chess I have my favorite openings while in Splinterlands I have my favorite combos. This is the topic of today's post.

I'm currently playing in Bronze with level one Archons, so this post should be helpful for beginners. I primarily use Foundation and Rebellion cards, and I've also picked up a few from the market to strengthen my deck. In today’s challenge, I’ll show some of my favorite combos that I use in games.

Magic Team Combo

In Bronze, a magic team combo is effective. Enemy teams cannot use Dodge and Shield in many cases. There are rulesets that weaken magic attacks like Void Armor rules but generally magic attacks cannot be blocked or dodged. That's what makes magic so effective in lower leagues.

In the Foundation cards, the Water summoner gives +1 magic buff to the team. In addition to the cards I have from the Foundation set and Rebellion reward cards, I also bought Conclave Arcana cards to add to my magic team that I use in my games. The typical magic team combo I use in the Water element.

Frontline varies depending on the maximum mana in the game. Commander Slade, Alpine Skink or Yaba's Pickle. I bought Yaba's Pickle to be an alternative tank in low mana battles. It a good promo card that has utility.

The rest of the team will be filled by magic units.

Chaos Adjutant - A Rebellion card with one magic attack.

Shock Trooper - A strong unit with 4 magic attack. It has a drawback of zapping his allies so I use this unit with caution.

Lunaki Howler - A card from the Foundation set. It has one magic attack.

Quillstorm Mage - I bought this card to add to my magic units. This is a neutral card that I can use in all elements.

Ujurak Elder - A Rebellion card with one magic attack. I use this in low mana battles.

Water Logged Wizard - Another card in the Foundation set. It has one magic attack.

Great Bear Druid - A legendary card in the Foundation set. This card can be earned in the toughest mission in the Campaign. It's a dual attack card with melee and magic.

In the battle below is an example of the combo I use in the Water element. Most of the main actors are there. I just choose the units based on how they will fit in the maximum mana allowed.

Magic in Death Element

The Death Element also has good magic cards, in fact even better than Water. Unlike the Water element magic units that mostly has one attack, the Death element cards have two magic attacks. I bought a Conclave Arcana card to add to my magic units in the Death element and I'm still eyeing for more like Fenmoor Gorgon and Shadowfey Shiek.

My Death magic cards are:

Arachne Weaver - This card has two magic attacks and a very strong healing skill, Corrupted Healing. It heals all allies except for itself.

Silverleaf Warlock - I bought this card to add to my magic attackers in Death element. It has two magic attacks.

Sorrow Harvester - A Foundation card with two magic attacks. She also decrease the enemy life with Weaken skill.

Little Sister - a legendary card and the reward card in Campaign: Gertrude Chompsbury. She only has one magic attack but increasesher life with each hit with her Life Leech skill

A sample battle with the combo. The maximum mana is 50 in this game. The opponent also used the same formula but I have the better units with a mix of Foundation, Rebellion and Conclave Arcana cards.
