On Christmas Eve, the snow outside my window began to glow softly, as if lit from within. I sat there reminiscing over the events of the past day. If only I had acted swiftly and on time maybe she would have been here by now. I tried to look away but the sense of guilt and agony filled my eyes.
Then I heard a soft tap, a knock on the door but I did not move one but. When the knock became persistent I had to slowly rise from the sofa to see who was actually knocking.
When I got to the door I slowly opened it and lo, Anne was standing at the door looking at me. "Anne, what a surprise"!, I shouted. I then stretched forth my hand and she brought out hers. I held it and slowly took it to usher her inside.
As we got inside the room Anne went straight to the fireplace. It was a cold snowy night. She needs warmth and I know that. I nodded slowly to myself in approval. She's here finally. I won't spend this Christmas alone.
This is my participation in the ecency [Writing Contest] Finish the Tale. Story #44.
