Hello Glint-hunting warriors, how are you doing?
Hopefully your Glint balance is still safe and didn’t vanish because of a late-night chest-opening impulse. As usual, in today’s Battle of the Day I want to share a fight that I personally found quite interesting—not because it was long or dramatic, but because tactically it was very “clean” and well executed.
The main characters in this story aren’t individual monsters, but rather the rivalry between two archons: Barthalamas with his speed bonus, and Nomos, who is famous for his -2 Magic effect plus dispel. In the Fire element, these two archons are like two sides of the same coin: one makes our team more agile, the other makes the opponent’s magic attacks feel blunt and ineffective.
With a 57 mana cap, this was clearly not a budget battle. This was a “high-spend but elegant” fight. I immediately decided to include high-mana monsters, because this is where they can truly perform at their maximum. My lineup was:
- Ulundin Overseer as the main tank
- Drybone Megalodon
- Grove Doomblade
- Mindless Thrall
- Emberguard
- Chaos Evoker
Meanwhile, my opponent’s team turned out to be very similar:
- Drybone Megalodon
- Grove Doomblade
- Mindless Thrall
- Chaos Evoker
- Great Bear Druid
- Sturdy Axe Warden
At first glance, the compositions look almost identical. But there were two important differences that I could feel right from the start. First, I had Ulundin Overseer as a much sturdier tank. Second, I had Emberguard with the Demoralize skill, which automatically reduces the opponent’s melee attack. In a battle filled with physical monsters, Demoralize is like a progressive tax—slow, but painful.

From the very first round, the direction of the fight was already clear. My opponent placed Sturdy Axe Warden in the backline. In theory, that makes sense: ranged units in the back, safe and protected. But the problem was that without a shield, he became an easy target. And sure enough, thanks to Grove Doomblade on my side, the opponent’s backline monster fell first. Meanwhile, the opponent’s Grove Doomblade had to work much harder because my Chaos Evoker had a shield.
It was a small moment, but with a big impact. Once one backline monster was gone, the opponent’s team balance immediately started to crumble.
On the other side, the opponent’s magic damage also felt “less threatening.” This was because Nomos reduced magic attack, so their Chaos Evoker couldn’t apply maximum pressure. Meanwhile, my Chaos Evoker was still free to rain damage from the back, even piercing through Drybone Megalodon’s shield.

By round three, the situation was already lopsided. The opponent only had two monsters left, while my team was still almost intact, even though my Chaos Evoker was already in critical condition. But at this point, the fight was only a matter of time. Emberguard kept applying pressure with Demoralize, Ulundin Overseer was still standing strong, and the opponent’s monsters surrendered to fate one by one.
The victory went to me, not because of spectacular damage, but because of small, consistent details: a sturdier tank, more effective debuffs, and safer positioning.

What makes this battle interesting is how important small differences in team composition can be. On the surface, our teams looked almost the same. But one monster—Emberguard—and one decision—using Ulundin Overseer—were enough to completely change the final outcome.

Remember: when the mana cap is high, don’t just bring expensive monsters—bring monsters that provide debuff effects as well. Because in Splinterlands, what often makes your opponent lose isn’t your attacks… but the gradual loss of their own strength.
