When Evasion Matters More Than Endurance

in FreeCompliments2 days ago

Hello Splinterlands warriors, let’s begin today’s story with a battle that felt like a game of hide-and-seek—not about who is the strongest, but who is the hardest to hit.

Today’s Battle of the Day matched me with a ruleset that felt both “cruel yet elegant”: Lost Magic and Tis But Scratches.

No magic attacks allowed, and every hit reduces max health. What does that mean? Healing becomes a sweet promise—present, but barely helpful. Here, survival isn’t about being tough, but about avoiding hits.

That’s when I started thinking, “If every hit hurts, then don’t get hit at all.” So I built my team with a simple approach: fast and slippery.

On the frontline, I placed Coralforged and Commander Slade. Two tanks that synergize well thanks to Flank, allowing both to attack without blocking each other. Behind them stood Surgehammer with Flying, followed by Steppe Stalker, who can still attack from the back thanks to Close Range. I also brought in Pixie-Knife Hurler, which I had just upgraded—and honestly, its Dodge ability felt like a golden ticket in this ruleset. Lastly, I positioned Chaos Battle Mage at the rear to slowly chip away at the enemy’s defenses.

I didn’t choose this formation to win fast, but to outlast my opponent. Because in this ruleset, whoever gets hit more… falls first.

The first round began with tension. Coralforged and Commander Slade stepped forward, holding the line together. Some hits landed, but quite a few missed. And every time an enemy attack failed, it felt like gaining an extra breath. The enemy tank, Saltwraith Bulkhead, eventually fell—but Coralforged had to go down as well. That’s when I thought, “Alright… this is getting serious.”

Entering round two, Commander Slade took over as the main tank—and that’s when the show truly began. His high speed made a huge difference. Several enemy attacks missed completely, like letters sent to the wrong address. What made it even more interesting was that every missed attack didn’t just avoid damage—it also avoided the Cripple effect. So it wasn’t just survival, it was preserving the future.

By round three, the pressure shifted to the opponent. Their Pixie-Knife Hurler, now acting as the tank, began to crumble. Its HP kept dropping, and there was no way to recover since max health had already been reduced.

Then came round four—the most memorable moment. Commander Slade looked like he was dancing in the arena. Attacks kept coming, but none truly landed. Meanwhile, my team steadily eliminated the remaining enemies until only A’lan Musketeer and Calabash Sage were left, simply waiting for their turn.

And yes, the victory was mine—not in a brutal way, but in a… graceful one.

What stood out most from this battle was a simple realization: in some rulesets, avoiding damage is more valuable than absorbing it. We often forget that speed, dodge, and positioning can matter more than raw damage.

Commander Slade played like a quiet main character—never flashy, but always present in the crucial moments. Meanwhile, Pixie-Knife Hurler, despite its small size, delivered a huge impact through its Dodge ability. It’s a reminder that even small upgrades can make a big difference.

If I could give one short piece of advice:
in rulesets that punish every hit, don’t be an easy target—be a shadow that’s hard to touch.

Because in this arena, sometimes victory doesn’t belong to the strongest… but to the hardest to defeat.
