Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Avatars and Exemplars

in Hive Gaming5 days ago

Greetings to all Splinterlands players and Midnight Letters community! This is my entry to this week's Community Engagement Challenge. In today's post I'll write about the latest update about Avatars & Exemplars. I have been playing Splinterlands for a long time. Avatars & Exemplars is one of the most interesting changes I've seen. The team is pushing Splinterlands from a card game to a role playing game style game play.

Not Just a Profile Picture

We often see Avatars in games. It's a visual representation of players to show how we like to look like in the game world. For Splinterlands, there's a big difference. Avatars & Exemplars is a way to create our own character. We can choose not only the looks, we can also upgrade it like we upgrade our cards. In short, Avatars & Exemplars can be used as a card in the game itself. Aside from a visual representation, it's an actual card that we can customize and adjust to our preference. Do you want to be a human, elf, dwarf or orc? You can do so in the options. You can also choose if you want to be melee tank or back line attacker with magic or ranged. This update further adds immersion to Splinterlands. According to the announcement post, Avatars & Exemplars will not be used in ranked battles which is fine to avoid the whales being super powerful. They can be used in tournaments and brawls which gives the players incentives to upgrade them. The upgrades are possible by paying glints giving the soul bound token more utility. The more the players earn glints, the more possible to upgrade the Avatars & Exemplars. This makes them feel like a long term investment and progression. The cards grow over time depending on the players activity and how much glint is earned in a season.

Levelling the Exemplars

Levelling the Exemplars will take time and plenty of glints. Players will start at level 0 Wood Common. When it reaches level twelve the rarity will change to Wood Rare. The maximum level is 180 and the Exemplar will be a Black Foil Legendary. It takes 59m+ glints to reach that level. It will not be attained in a year or two. It will be a long time before we can maximize our Exemplars. It grows as we play and earn glints. It gives us more reason to play more than SPS rewards. The player's focus will no longer just be on the tokens earned but also on the growth of Exemplars.

Future Updates

According to the Splinterlands post, there are more planned updates on the Avatars & Exemplars. The more interesting are tournaments and challenges where we can use Exemplars in games. Another interesting planned update is the inclusion of Exemplars in campaigns. The campaign has already made Splinterlands touch role playing game territory. It's not just a simple trading card game anymore. With Exemplars that we customize and upgrade, Splinterlands is integrating more role playing game elements into the game.

Conclusion

Avatars and Exemplars looks like Splinterlands is expanding the game. From a trading card game, it's slowly going in the direction of a role playing game. It encourages progression and activity and rewards the players by having the opportunity to strengthen the player made card. It also encourages commitment as we try to stay in the game and grow our Avatars & Exemplars.
