Building the Splitgate you deserve, they said! (SPLITGATE 2 Review)

in Hive Gaming8 days ago

Hello gaming fam, I hope that you all are doing great and living the best out of your lives. Lately, I had been playing single-players game. But, I got kind of bored so decided to change the taste. In my search for something new yet old experience, I found a gem called, "Splitgate 2." Basically, Splitgate 2 is the sequel of 'Splitgate (2019).'

Developers and Publishers:

Splitgate 2 is a free-to-play first-person shooter developed and published by 1047 Games.

Splitgate 2 is the only free-to-play shooter with portals, delivering next-level gunplay, fluid movement, and a constantly evolving experience, featuring a new Battle Royale where you can portal between unique worlds. Welcome to the future of sport

Splitgate 2:
It is an arena shooter that combined elements of games like Portal and Halo. It was a fun ride. though, I had played the pre-launch beta version of it, still I wanted to check it out thoroughly. So, I downloaded it and launched it. Here are my thoughts about how the sequel has turned out. Let's get into it.

Gameplay:
I think the reason to play splitgate is its gameplay. Development team knows what makes a modern shooters game good. The gunplay is tight, movement is fast and its quite fun to play with this pace. You even have powers/boost on you, mine was the ability to be flash. It also has a diving feature like CoD, Apex Legends etc. The main difference is the ability to open portals. You can use portals in specific areas of the map that allow you to move beyond. But, in my personal experience, I never had games where portals actually felt useful. Though, they made a huge difference in first version but in this version portals weren't fun. Maybe, map designing is the reason behind it.
Portal

Along with the portals, game also does not do enough for casual players, nor does it do enough for competitive players. Many features are lacking or you can say are half-baked and don't do justice. First version is still the peak for me. Maps are mid, I didn't find a single map good enough to love.

Features:
There are 3 classes1. Aeros (Move extra fast)
2. Meridian (Scan through walls and see your enemies)
3. Sabrask (Shield which defends you)

Now each class has 5 main weapons and believe, nothing stands out. It's just okay.
First Impression

Modes:
Game has many modes and Battle-Royale is the worst. All you do is looting, killing and surviving till the end. I get it that its what a battle royale is but add something new to it. There is nothing to make this game stand out.

I did enjoy playing arena and death match. It was actually fun especially capturing the zone.

It had around 1050+ active players at that time and I couldn't play it for more than 60 minutes.

I stole kills :)

Controls:
WASD for the movement,
Ctrl to couch,
V to through a punch or weapon-hand,
E to open portals,
and Space-bar to dive/slide.

Final Thoughts:
Overall, it is a solid idea-wise game but underwhelming in nearly every other area. I had more expectations from a game where they had stopped all the productions of the first game to focus on this version. The inclusions of new yet nothing new things like the Battle Royale don't add anything new to the genre. Maps, modes, weapons, perks and abilities all feel uninspired and wholly unoriginal, mostly borrowed from other games.
While there are worse shooters game on the market, Splitgate 2 is free, so it's worth download if you're curious. But, I am not sure whether you will be able to spend a ton of time on this game in its current state.

Thanks for sticking by.
Do mention your thoughts.
