Apart from that they look really cool, the water idea is also sweet
Did you put some kind of coating on the inside that the water doesnt come in there again to 'moist' the clay?

I guess i didn't make it clear but the eggs are not yet finished.
Next step is to build a kiln in the garden and bake them super hot with a home-made glaze. Only after this is done will they hold water without absorbing it.
Will post an update once it's done...
