Hello Asean Hive Community
I am on vacation from frugal foodie right now, regarding my health is not on good stable condition. However this doesn't mean I am getting a fancy food or fine dining stuffs. It's just the food I take will be "less" selective in term of budgetary.
So today I am getting this Asem Padeh, it is one of the padang cuisine however this is less familiar for most Indonesian. Not saying it is not famous, many people know this but it is less popular than the other padang dish.
Asem Padeh comes from Asam Pedas, which pedas means spicy in English. Asam is acid, however for taste or flavor, asam means sour. We have less vocabulary here, sometime translator can go wrong. Instead of Sour + Spicy, it can be spicy acid lol.

This is my asem padeh, usually most padang cuisine outlet and restaurant will use Mackerel Tuna like this one. It can use many kind of meat, including chicken and beef, however the famous one is Mackerel Tuna for the saltwater fish and pangasius catfish for the freshwater fish. This one is the Mackerel Tuna.
Asem padeh itself is a gulai, or curry. This sour and spicy curry is actually a bit ambigue for some foreign because common Padang dish use spicy curry too. The difference is that Asem Padeh doesn't have Coconut milk content.

So it has less saturated fat however... Recently I see many young generation make Asem Padeh with coconut too, we can blame Cookpad for providing wrong recipe. Well it is up to everyone preference, but I have stated here the reason I ordered this Asem Padeh because I am reducing the intake of saturated fat.
Anyway I ordered that Asem Padeh with an extra sidedish, it was a grilled eggplant in chili paste. Chili paste or Chili sauce, it's up to you how you want it called. I think I do not have to tell many about that eggplant regarding the taste was so so. A good eggplant in chili paste should have some stinky beans, anchovy and thick chili pate... however I had that lunch from one of my regular padang rice hut which was quite famous for being a budget friendly outlet so I did not expect something good there.

The last thing... I had something missing there. It was not something wrong in the eggplant or on the green chili sauce nor the crispy batter bits there. If you see some of my foodie post especially on Padang Dishes, you can guess it soon what is missing on that plate. If you can guess it, I will give you something in return. Let say that's the trivia question in my post here.
Ok that's the end of my story for today. Feel free to leave any comment and thanks for coming here.
Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Ex-Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community.
