A couple of days ago I set off for my first ever Hive Fest in Kuala Lumpur. I was determined to travel light - carry on baggage only - and packed just one bag, actually a briefcase, that weighed just over five and a half kilos. Here I am in my hotel dressing gown showing off my fully packed bag - photo 2.
Malaysian Airlines flies direct from Osaka - Kansai International Airport (KIX) - to Kuala Lumpur, departing at 9:30 in the morning, so I hopped onto the bullet train from Hiroshima to Shin-Osaka and then the Haruka Express to the airport the day before and stayed at the Nikko Hotel, the closest hotel to the airport. When you leave the train station you turn left for the airport or right for the hotel and each one is about a 30 second walk away from the station exit. Very convenient indeed! That's the hotel behind me in photo 3.
Staying at the Nikko brings back memories of travelling with my daughter when she was a child. We stayed at the Nikko a few times before flying to the UK, back in the days when there was a direct flight to the UK from KIX. The first time just the two of us were travelling we celebrated her third birthday in a cafe in the restaurant area of the hotel that served a nice strawberry-topped cream cake that delighted her. Sadly, there are fewer restaurants there now (apart from the upscale ones that charge silly prices). In the end I bought a burger and chips, and grabbed a couple of beers from Lawson's (which never used to be there) and retreated to my room for an early night.
Cheers!
