Hello everyone! How are you? Today I want to share with you a sort of "reunion" with my past self, with that teenager I once was who attended Don Bosco School in Valencia, Venezuela. Recently, due to a family activity, I had to go back there, and I certainly didn't miss the opportunity to explore it at my leisure and reconnect with that past that is still there, present in some way. I could see the changes it has undergone, which are few but significant, and this has made me think that time truly passes and makes us evolve.
¡Hola hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están? Hoy quiero mostrarles un "reencuentro" por llamarlo de alguna manera, con mi yo del pasado, con esa adolescente que alguna vez fui y que asistió al Colegio Don Bosco de la ciudad de Valencia, en Venezuela, recientemente a causa de una actividad familiar tuve que ir allí de nuevo y ciertamente no desaproveché la oportunidad de explorarlo a voluntad y reencontrarme con ese pasado que todavía está allí, presente, de alguna manera, pude ver los cambios que ha tenido, los cuales son pocos pero significativos y esto me ha hecho pensar en que realmente el tiempo pasa y nos hace evolucionar.
I started at that school in the 5th grade, but it was a branch located diagonally across from this building. The one I'm showing you now is what we used to call the "big school," and it's where the high school is located. It's a technical school, meaning students graduate with a specialization; it's like one more year than a high school diploma. Among the specializations I could choose from were: Electronics, Computer Science, and Accounting; I chose Computer Science.
Inicie en ese colegio desde el 5to grado de primaria, pero era una sede que está diagonal a este edificio, Este que les muestro ahora es que solíamos llamar "colegio grande" y es donde funciona la secundaria. El colegio es técnico, es decir que los estudiantes salen graduados con una mención, es como un grado más que el bachillerato. Entre las menciones que yo tenía para elegir estaba: Electrónica, informática y contabilidad, yo elegí informática.
Mis zonas preferida junto con mis amigos eran las mesas de concreto, las cuales estaban cerca de la cantina (la tienda del colegio) allí no sentábamos a desayunar y también era mi zona favorita de los sábados cuando yo asistía a prácticas y ensayos de la banda escolar (ya que yo era bailarina en la banda) También amaba los banquitos de piedra que dividen los dos patios. Jaja recuerdo que yo solía sentarme así (como ven en la foto) en esos bancos de piedra, usualmente recargada sobre la espalda de alguno de mis amigos mientras veíamos algún partido o simplemente esperando a que llegara la hora de la siguiente clase.

Walking through the school hallways filled me with nostalgia as I remembered the past, the same hallways where my friends and I would sit on the floor reviewing what we had studied for an exam. I remember Father Jhony with his joviality and his beautiful way of saying mass, Brother Luis with his candor and affable smile, as if it were yesterday. But I also remember the grumpy teachers who bothered us about everything, from our hairstyles to any accessory (I still remember that Emo sweater they confiscated and never returned 😡).
En mi recorrido por los pasillos del colegio me llené de nostalgia al recordar el pasado, los mismos pasillos en los cuales mis amigos y yo nos sentábamos en el piso mientras repasábamos lo que habíamos estudiado para algún examen, y recuerdo como si fuese ayer al padre Jhony con su jovialidad, su forma tan bonita de decir la misa, al hermano Luis con su candidez y su sonrisa afable, pero también recuerdo a los profesores gruñones que nos molestaban por cualquier cosa, desde nuestro estilo en cuanto al cabello se refiere hasta cualquier accesorio (todavía recuerdo ese suéter Emo que me confiscaron y nunca me regresaron😡)
The school is relatively the same, but I did find new murals, there are no more banners in the sanctuary windows and the library has been remodeled, Ahh! and I found a beautiful new chapel that wasn't there before, they built it in one of the rooms that used to be used as workshops for the automotive major.
El colegio está relativamente igual, pero si conseguí murales nuevos, ya no hay pendones en las ventanas del santuario y la biblioteca está remodelada, ¡Ahh! y encontré una bellísima capilla nueva que no estaba antes, la construyeron en uno de los salones que antes se usaban como talleres de la mención automotriz.
There are likely many more renovations underway in other classrooms and areas, but obviously I couldn't see the entire school. Even so, I really enjoyed being there and reconnecting with my past. After the family activity, I took the time to explore and admire every space, especially the courtyard where I performed so many times with the school band.
Es probable que hayan muchas más remodelaciones en otros salones y áreas pero obviamente no pude ver todo el colegio. De todos modos disfruté mucho estar ahí y reencontrarme con mi pasado. Cuando salí de la actividad que tuvimos con la familia, me dediqué a hacer el recorrido y a contemplar cada espacio, en especial el patio donde tantas veces hice presentaciones con la banda Show del colegio.
Outside the school there are many more obvious changes, for example diagonally across from the building is the store where we always bought stationery items (at that time it was closed because it was Sunday) but it certainly changed a lot due to those beautiful murals that they put up, giving it a fresher and more artistic look.
Afuera del colegio hay muchos más cambios evidentes, por ejemplo diagonal al edificio está la tienda donde siempre comprábamos artículos de papelería (en ese momento estaba cerrada por ser domingo) pero ciertamente cambió mucho debido a esos hermosos murales que le pusieron, le dio una imagen más fresca y artística.
But the biggest change of all is right in front of the school, where there used to be only the parking lot for the "Casa de la Estrella," one of the oldest buildings in the city of Valencia, which in the 19th century served as a hospital, university, and even the seat of government. Now, on that land that was once the parking lot, they've built a beautiful plaza with a playground, green spaces, and even a stage.
Pero el mayor cambio de todos está justo al frente del colegio, donde antes estaba solo el estacionamiento de la "Casa de la estrella" una de las más antiguas de la ciudad de Valencia, y que en el siglo XIX sirvió como hospital, universidad y hasta casa de gobierno. Actualmente sobre ese terreno que antes era el estacionamiento de esa casa construyeron una bellísima plaza con juegos para niños, áreas verdes y hasta un escenario.
From the outside, the school church, or as we call it, "The Sanctuary," looks exactly the same as it did then, without any alterations whatsoever.
Por fuera la iglesia del colegio o como lo llamamos "El santuario" se ve exactamente igual que entonces, sin alteraciones de ningún tipo.
Finally, filled with nostalgia but also with gratitude, I left there leaving behind that beautiful past, but with the memories very vivid in my mind and in my heart.
Al final, llena de nostalgia pero también de agradecimiento, me fui de allí dejando atrás ese hermoso pasado, pero con los recuerdos muy vívidos en mi mente y en mi corazón.
