The Three Weeks White Fowl In Camp

in GEMS27 days ago

My experience in camp was one that was fun. Before you start to ask questions about which camp I went to, it is the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp. This is a compulsory activity after one finishes one's tertiary education and has a BSc in Nigeria. Different countries have different ways their citizens serve their countries and in Nigeria, this is how we do it.

While the service was fun, I had to deal with a lot especially when it came to finance since the economy of the country is in shambles and we just have to survive. Starting from purchasing my camping kits and necessary items, I realized that I was going to pay between 60% to 100% increase for goods and services that I needed to purchase.

The entire list I spent a day writing wasn't worth it after all because the money I took to the market wasn't enough to buy what I needed Moreover, NYSC wasn't the one paying for it, I was the one purchasing what I needed.

After the purchase, I went to the park and boarded a bus from Abuja to Osun State which was an eight-hour journey by road. I was to camp at Ede in Osun State. I got to the camp late at night that day and got in. I did the necessary accreditation and went to pick up my uniform.

I was proud and happy wearing my Uniform because I have always dreamt of finishing my first degree, and serving my father land. I enjoyed every bit of experience at camp but going back is not an option for me because I am done with that stage of life.

This is one fine lady that just wanted to take pictures with a handsome man. Camping was filled with mixed experiences, fun, stress, excitement, and there were days I was down as well because I had a financial problem to sort out.

My platoon commander is my guy, and he was the one who gave us a tip on field experience including marching and other parades.

The exercises were the fun part of it for me. I am a weight lifter and body builder, so whatever has to do with exercise is always welcome.

Currently, I'm out of camp and I'm serving in a school as a teacher. I will be doing this for the next 1 year and it is surely going to be a roller coaster of events including the good, the better, and the best. We are in and we are going to conquer at the end.
