Doing Some DIY

in GEMS3 days ago

My mum asked if I could come up today and help her with a wall out in the back garden.

There were two layers of blocks missing at the end of the wall, which had previously been covered with ivy and thorn bushes.

The first step of this process was to cut away all of that so there was a clearer space to work. These weeds wreck her head and tend to grow from the neighbour's garden into hers.

While I made the suggestion of petrol and a match, she decided against that and used a hedge trimmer and a pair of loppers instead.

It didn't take long to get rid of it all, and then we could see what needed doing.

To get to this point was fairly time-consuming.

There was some capping on top of the smaller section of the wall. An angle grinder was needed to cut below the capping, to give me some leverage to lift it with a crowbar.

I sustained a slight injury doing that. The crowbar kind of kicked back at one point and cut my forearm, but it was a mere flesh wound.

Once that was done, I mixed up a batch of cement and we got cracking.

Lifting the smaller blocks was okay, but the cinder blocks have a lot of weight to them, and it was a bit of a nightmare to get them up there, but I managed it in the end.

The finishing touch will be putting some cement in between the top layer of blocks.

Sadly, we ran out of time to do that today, but she said she can manage it tomorrow afternoon.

I had to run back home to get Kaleb to sleep since his bedtime was fast approaching, and he doesn't really go to sleep for Aimee.

The work was great today, and it's looking so much better. My only regret is not wearing sunscreen, because when I got back home, I noticed that one of my arms is fairly red.

Hopefully, the after-sun can help it out a bit.
