I Picked up Some New Stuff

in GEMS10 days ago

There is a local Freebies Facebook page in my town, and today I went onto it to check if anything had been listed.

Usually, there are people giving away furniture or just unwanted stuff in general. Today, as I went on, I saw a post with an assortment of items.

This was the first thing that caught my eye.

I'm a big fan of Scarface, so seeing this framed assortment of photos and film cells was really interesting to me.

I have no idea if they are genuine, but it is still an interesting find, and would look cool up on the wall.

This was there too.

A signed print of Valentino Rossi and an action shot.

I'm not big into MotoGP, but Kaleb loves bikes and cars, so I thought it would be something cool to hang up in his room.

This was there too.

Whoever owned this stuff must have been a big fan.

This is a really cool printed canvas, and it's fairly large, so I thought we could hang it above his cot, and when he gets a proper bed, it would be cool hanging above the headboard.

There were also these large framed posters.

I'm not a huge fan of the Matrix, so I'll probably give this to my dad if he wants it.

This is pretty cool.

I like Bob Marley, but I don't know if I would hang this up.

Again, this is just something that I can give to someone who smokes/ likes Bob Marley.

These lamps were there too.

They aren't exactly my colour, but I could paint them something other than gold that matches the shades.

The shades are really soft, but are a bit dusty.

I don't know if we will ever need a car cover, but it's handy to have.

I know people who live right next to the sea use these to protect their cars, and I think they can also come in handy during the winter.

Since it was there I asked for it along with the other things.

The woman giving them away was really nice, and I was the first to message her, so I had my pick of everything she had.

She didn't live far, and I arranged to collect them within 60 minutes, because my partner was out with the car, but she offered to drop them off at my place since she was going out anyway.

After organising the meetup, I refreshed the listing and noticed about 10 comments within 5 minutes asking for the pictures. I was pretty lucky that I happened to check the page the minute she listed these items.

I thought maybe I should have just been specific about the couple of things I really wanted, but she just wanted rid, so I figured it was easier to just take it all, and give away the things I'm not too keen on.

I used to use the local Freecycle group a lot years ago. Was good for things like bikes for the kids and I could pass them on too. I ought to check if there is still something like that, but I need to avoid accumulating more stuff :)

It's so handy for stuff like that, and I like the idea of giving things a new lease on life. I really don't like seeing things get wasted and dumped.

If I had the space, I would love to upcycle furniture, and I think for something like that, freebies pages would be perfect

I just saw that our council do sell some electrical items that have been thrown out, after they get tested. We also have a 'repair cafe' in the village a few times a year. I'm all for fixing things. We have bought furniture from charity shops.

That repair cafe is a cool idea, is that just for people to work on stuff, or is it for people to hand in broken electronics?

I take apart old broken electrical items that can't be fixed and keep the boards and compacitors in a box so I can use them as greeblies for models I make, I have a little collection of random things, even interesting looking bottle lids or whatever, that I think I can use

They have volunteers who can do different types of repair and see what people bring in. Some of it they can fix there and then, but others get taken away for more work.

I come here bcz of the Al Pacino photos the legend of Hollywood and a great actor 💞

That was the one that caught my eyes, especially the film cells. I have no idea if they are the original cells, but they are really cool

Yes the legend always on top
