Cada día de vida es suficiente motivo para agradecer y hoy agradezco la fortuna de estar con mi hija este día, 29 de junio de 2026, cuando cumple sus 18 años.
Teníamos algunos planes que quedaron a un lado por la situación que vive nuestro país, que nos recuerda lo vulnerables que somos y lo valioso que es dormir cada noche en nuestras camas.
Aún en medio de la tormenta, no puedo menos que agradecer por la vida de cada persona que amo.
En días como estos es difícil sonreír sin sentirse culpable, pero también es evidente que la simple cotidianidad es un tesoro invaluable.
Cuántas personas no quisieran hoy que sus problemas fueran tener que levantarse temprano, preparar el desayuno, llevar a los niños a la escuela, ir a trabajar, ingeniárselas para alargar el presupuesto y un largo etcétera.
Pero hoy celebro la vida de mi hija, así que me permito cambiar el tono y compartir lo que en realidad hicimos.
Every day of life is reason enough to be grateful, and today I’m grateful for the good fortune of being with my daughter on this day, June 29, 2026, her 18th birthday.
We had some plans that had to be put on hold because of the situation our country is going through, which reminds us how vulnerable we are and how precious it is to sleep in our own beds every night.
Even in the midst of the storm, I can’t help but be grateful for the lives of every person I love.
On days like these, it’s hard to smile without feeling guilty, but it’s also clear that the simple routines of daily life are an invaluable treasure.
How many people today would wish that their problems were just having to get up early, make breakfast, take the kids to school, go to work, figure out how to stretch the budget, and so on.
But today I’m celebrating my daughter’s life, so I’m going to shift gears and share what we actually did.
En primer lugar, le preparé el desayuno que ella eligió: Empanadas de queso. Un pequeño detalle que le hizo sentir atendida.
Su regalo fue una franela de su equipo favorito de F1, ella no se lo esperaba y su papá y yo disfrutamos mucho ver su cara de sorpresa.

First, I made her the breakfast she chose: cheese empanadas. It was a small gesture that made her feel special.
Her gift was a T-shirt from her favorite F1 team; she wasn’t expecting it, and her dad and I really enjoyed seeing the look of surprise on her face.
She also asked me to take her to the hair salon to get her hair cut, because her ends were really split—something I’d been putting off for a long time.

My husband let her choose what she wanted for lunch, so we went to a Creole restaurant where she got to eat something she really loves: cachapa with cheese. For dessert, she had a brownie with ice cream.
We wanted to spoil her, make her feel like her day was special, and create an oasis just for her.
Su prima y su abuela le hicieron un pastel de cumpleaños, así que en la noche fuimos a casa de mi suegra, donde cada año nos reunimos para celebrar la vida de cada miembro de la familia, conversando un rato y finalmente repartiendo el pastel.

Her cousin and her grandmother baked her a birthday cake, so that evening we went to my mother-in-law’s house, where we gather every year to celebrate the lives of each family member, chatting for a while and finally sharing the cake.
The atmosphere was somber, but everyone did their best not to spoil the brief moment we spent together.
