‎The Cemetery That Quietly Changed My Thoughts

in GEMS4 days ago

‎Hello Hives,

‎Yesterday, while I was on my way back from Ijebu-Ode to Ibadan with my friend and a plumber colleague, I had one of those moments that made me stop and think about life on our way.

‎As we're about to leave Ijebu-Ode, and like many people do during long trips, I found myself staring out of the car window. Then I saw something that caught my attention.

‎Along the road was a cemetery.

‎It was not just the cemetery itself that stood out to me. I noticed rows of bricks neatly arranged there, some are already occupied and some are still waiting to be used. That simple sight immediately reminded me that one day, every one of us will end up in a place like that. No matter how rich or poor we are, no matter our position in society, death is one appointment none of us can escape.

‎I gently tapped a plumber colleagues sitting beside me and asked him to look through the window. After he noticed the cemetery, I told him, "One day, this will be the final destination for every one of us."

‎He quietly looked at me for a few seconds. I don't know exactly what was going through his mind, but I could tell he was thinking about what I had said.

‎As for me, that moment stayed with me for the rest of the journey.

‎We spend so much of our lives chasing money, possessions, titles, and recognition. Though, there is nothing wrong with working hard or trying to build a comfortable life. In fact, we should always strive to improve ourselves. But sometimes we become so attached to these things that we forget they are only temporary.

‎When our time comes, we won't carry our houses, cars, businesses, or bank accounts with us. Everything we worked so hard to acquire will remain behind for someone else. What people are more likely to remember is how we treated others, the kindness we showed, the lives we touched, and the legacy we left behind.

‎That brief moment beside the cemetery reminded me that life is fragile and unpredictable. And it encouraged me to live more intentionally, to appreciate the people around me, and to focus less on things that won't matter in the end.

‎We should still dream big, work hard, and pursue success. But while doing so, we should remain humble, live decent and simple lives, and never lose our humanity. One day, our journey here will come to an end, and all that will truly matter is the kind of life we lived and the impact we made on others.

‎Sometimes, the greatest lessons don't come from books or speeches, but they come from ordinary moments on an ordinary journey and that's if we're willing to pay attention.

‎Thanks for reading!!!!
