‎The Discipline of Presence ‎

in GEMS5 days ago

‎Hi Hive,

‎There was a time in my life when I thought respect was something you demanded with mere words, or forced through attitude. But I was wrong, because respect is often silent. It even shows up before you speak, and most times, it is built on the little things people tend to overlook.

‎Lately, I began noticing a shift when I became intentional about how I presented myself. Not for anyone else, but for me.

‎Twice in a month, I sit in that barber’s chair. No excuses. A clean haircut does something subtle but powerful, it sharpens your identity. You look in the mirror and see a man who is put together, a man who pays attention. People notice it too, even if they don’t say it to your face.

‎Then I also took my dressing more seriously. Not expensive clothes, just clean, well-fitted, and appropriate for the occasion. Whether I’m stepping out for something casual or something important, I show up looking like I respect where I’m going. And that alone changes how people receive you.

‎Smelling nice became non-negotiable. It sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how many people ignore it. A good scent leaves a silent impression. You may leave the room, but something about you lingers even after you left.

‎I also learned to slow down when I talk. Because there is strength in calmness. It feels like you’re trying to prove something when you speak too fast. But people lean in when you take your time. They listen and your words carry more weight.

‎And smiling, do it just when necessary, but not all the time adds balance. You don’t have to be overly serious to be respected. A well-timed smile show confidence, not weakness.

‎What I have realized is that respect is not magic. But it is built through consistent habits. And the way you carry yourself sends a message long before your words even do.

‎So these days, I don’t chase validation. But I focus on discipline, I pay attention to how I look, how I speak and how I show up without forcing it, respect follows.

‎Not because I demanded for it, but because I became the kind of man people naturally respect.
