Many times we have to deal with situations that are beyond our control, for which we cannot act alone, and that may even be impossible to overcome. This happened to all of us during the SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 pandemic. I went looking for information from the Butantan Institute, which is a respected institution in Brazil, in order to better understand it:
SARS-CoV-2: a virus from the coronavirus family that, when it infects humans, causes a disease called Covid-19. Because it is a microorganism that until recently was not transmitted among humans, it became known at the beginning of the pandemic as the “new coronavirus”.
Covid-19: the disease that manifests in us, human beings, after the infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

From what I investigated, viruses from this family called Coronavirus were already well known to us humans, at least to scientists and health researchers. So when the news of infections caused by SARS-CoV-2 arrived in 2019, it could actually have been just another one, but that is not what happened. So much so that now all of us have already heard of the so-called Coronavirus (even though you now also know that this is not the name of a specific virus, but rather of a large group of similar variants).
Unfortunately, in Brazil we went through the coincidence of having denialists presiding over the country. It is not an offense to call the former president and current inmate Jair Bolsonaro a denialist; there is abundant material produced by him declaring that he does not believe in the virus, in the pandemic, and so on. This closely resembles the belief of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), who does not believe that viruses exist.
It is obvious and coherent that the former president and current inmate Jair Bolsonaro found people with similar thinking. And for this purpose, he appointed several Ministers of Health aligned with this position. As a result, the country did not do the basics:
- awareness campaigns
- protection of risk groups
- regional lockdowns
- mass testing
With the information I gathered, we can compare the Covid-19 mortality rate of the USA (~3,656/million) with that of Brazil (~3,346/million) in the overall accumulated data. Both countries rank among the nations with the highest mortality rates in the world among countries with large populations.
Unfortunately, due to an issue of personal belief, both countries, Brazil and the USA, saw their people die. You can believe whatever you want, as long as it does not affect others. Your matters of faith should be dealt with in the spiritual world. Science does not accept faith; it works with observable certainties, even if they are not immutable.
I asked AI to create a comparative chart using the numbers of deaths per million inhabitants, keeping the USA and Brazil in comparison with countries whose leadership acted based on science.
We are not talking about treating the situation with the characteristic (and commendable) rigor of Japan. Just doing the basics, using the thousands of years of accumulated scientific knowledge. Campaigns encouraging the population to wash their hands should have been done. This is basic! And it would have made a difference.
In the end, history has already been written, and what will be told is that half of the dead in the USA and Brazil could be alive.
They died for no reason.
More than three hundred thousand people could be alive in Brazil if it were not for the lack of cognitive capacity of the former president and current inmate Jair Bolsonaro.

Muitas vezes temos que lidar com situações que fogem do nosso controle, para as quais não conseguimos agir sozinhos, e que chegam a ser impossíveis de contornar. Isso aconteceu com todos nós na pandemia de SARS-CoV-2 e Covid-19. Eu fui buscar informações no Instituto Butantan, que é uma entidade de respeito no Brasil, para poder entender melhor:
SARS-CoV-2: vírus da família dos coronavírus que, ao infectar humanos, causa uma doença chamada Covid-19. Por ser um microrganismo que até pouco tempo não era transmitido entre humanos, ele ficou conhecido, no início da pandemia, como “novo coronavírus”.

Pelo que investiguei, os vírus dessa família chamada Coronavirus já eram velhos conhecidos de nós, seres humanos. Ao menos para os cientistas e pesquisadores em saúde. Então quando chegou a notícia das infecções causadas pelo SARS-CoV-2 em 2019 na verdade poderia ter sido apenas mais uma, mas não foi isso que aconteceu, tanto que agora todos nós já ouvimos falar do tal Coronavirus (mesmo que agora você também saiba que isso não é nome de um vírus em específico, e sim de um grupo extenso de variantes parecidas).
Infelizmente no Brasil passamos pela coincidência de ter negacionistas presidindo o país. Não é nenhuma ofensa chamar de negacionista o ex-presidente e atual presidiário Jair Bolsonaro, existe farto material produzido por ele próprio declarando não acreditar no vírus, na pandemia, e tudo mais. Se assemelha muito com a crença de Robert F. Kennedy Jr., chefe do Departamento de Saúde e Serviços Humanos dos EUA, (HHS, na sigla em inglês), que não acredita que vírus existem.
É óbvio e coerente que o ex-presidente e atual presidiário Jair Bolsonaro tenha encontrado pessoas com pensamento semelhante. E para este fim, ele nomeou vários Ministros da Saúde com alinhamento nesta questão. Como resultado o país não fez o básico:
- campanhas de conscientização
- proteção de grupos de risco
- bloqueios por regiões
- testagem em massa
Com as informações que levantei, podemos comparar a taxa de mortalidade por Covid-19 dos EUA (~3.656/milhão) com a do Brasil (~3.346/milhão) nos dados acumulados gerais. Ambos os países figuram entre as nações com as maiores taxas de mortalidade do mundo entre os países de grande população.
Infelizmente por uma questão de crença pessoal os dois países, Brasil e EUA, viram seus povos morrerem. Você pode acreditar no que você quiser, desde que isso não afete o outro. Suas questões de fé devem ser tratadas no mundo espiritual. A ciência não admite fé, ela trabalha com certezas observáveis, ainda que não sejam imutáveis.
Pedi para IA montar um gráfico comparativo usando os números de mortes por milhão de habitantes, mantendo EUA e BRASil em comparação com países cuja presidência agiu com base científica.
Não estamos falando de tratar com o rigor característico (e elogiável) do Japão. Apenas fazer o básico, usando dos milhares de anos de conhecimento científico acumulado. Era para ter feito campanhas incentivando a população lavar as mãos. Isso é básico! E teria feito diferença.
No fim, a história já foi escrita e o que será contado é que metade dos mortos em EUA e Brasil poderiam estar vivos.
Eles morreram sem motivo.
Mais de trezentas mil pessoas poderiam estar vivas no Brasil se não fosse pela falta de capacidade cognitiva do ex-presidente e atual presidiário Jair Bolsonaro.
