When I was in school I always enjoy reading books, and it ranged from a story book to science books. I remember the day when I found that a big wooden Almira in our school was actually storage for books. With our class teachers guidance we taken out all the books and list out and discard that were not in good condition. I took many of those discarded books along with me and after fixing them read all of them. The pictures from one book which was about the animals, birds, inspects is just now come inforn of my eyes when I writing about them. The book reading was always one of the best hobby and the activity I like the most. During my childhood we use to read the comic books, I understand that they were not for education but it was fun to read them. This was the time when the television were rare and the internet was not their. Now it's the era of technology and with one click and in seconds we can download the pdf files which has the capability to store ten, hundred of books data in it. The things be one very handy but now the habits has been changed and it's very rare I read a book physical or virtual. The small device in our hand the mobile phone is very suitable now days to download and read the e-books.

In digital era using the technology day in day out routine has its own advantage and disadvantage. One one side it give the freedom to download and read the books anytime and anywhere but on other side the reality is we download it, then we read initial pages and then kept the file untouched in storage of phone. Even we forget that we have downloaded it. The reading on small screen of phones also not good for eyesight. And to be honest reading the physical book has its own fun, the scent form each page give enjoyment.

If I am not wrong the last book I read was recently only. Actually we purchased some story books for my kid and some time I read them for my kid in the night just before the sleep. She also enjoy listening to them. Other then this the last book I read for myself was long time ago. Actually it was the series completed in three parts. The mane was Immortals of Maluha, Secrets of Nagas and Oat of Vanuputa. The story line was connected with history and mythology. I love the concept and love the way the author connected all characters. If you asked them surely I will recommend it to you. If I am not wrong then my roommate purchased the book and I get it form him only. It was the time when I just started a new job and we opted the company bus service for commuting. It took almost half an hour one side so in total almost one hour a day I read the book. And that was the time when I travelled by train also to visit my home town so the train journey also give enough time for reading. I still remember the third part I downloaded in my phone also but to be honest not able to read as it doesn't give me the fun I had when reading though the physical book. To refer any technical book when I am working on computer is always comfortable and easy but reading a story book on phone is not my cup of tea.

Book reading is good habits which is getting vanish in current generation and the obvious reason is internet, TV, mobile and other modes of entertainment available now days. I always try to purchase a story book for my kid whenever I get a chance and she also like it. The best thing is that reading helps in reducing the screen time and yes the education and moral stories create good habits in kids.

The Almirah story was beautiful. The moment you mentioned taking those damaged books home and fixing them - something clicked for me. We’re exactly that generation who understood the value of things, not just their convenience.
The contradiction you explained is so real: I also find PDFs easy for work on my computer, but when it’s a novel, phone reading just doesn’t connect. It’s like our brain still knows the difference between “consuming information” and “experiencing a story.”
What struck me most was when you said you downloaded part three of Secrets of Nagas but couldn’t read it - I have the exact same problem. Right now I probably have 40 PDFs on my phone that I’ve never read past page 10. But that physical book I bought last year? Read it three times.
Maybe the real issue isn’t physical vs digital - it’s that easy access diminishes value.

I guess it happened to all, we downloaded and kept it somewhere in our phone or laptop and never opened it again. At least books are in front of us and this is the reason we read them and the phone has multiple functions which are always a distraction when we want to concentrate on one thing.

So true! Digital hoarding is the new bookshelf dust-collecting. But I've found a hybrid approach works best:

Physical books for deep focus
E-books for quick reference & searchability
Audiobooks for multitasking moments

Each format has its superpower.

Reading books is very good.
