Ranking system is important

in Hive Learners10 hours ago

Education is known as the backbone of a nation, and the prosperity of a nation is mostly dependent on it, according to the thoughts of present times, as the students of the present time will lead the nation in the future. So, the current education system has an indirect impact on the future of the country. Again, all humans are equal by right, and discriminating or making categories among them may not seem like a good thing, but is it also right in the case of the grading system in education exams? Do you think that without a grading system, education can be better? Let me share my thoughts about it.

In the traditional education system, the grading system was popular, and it’s still popular now, and based on the exam results, the ranks of the students used to be determined. Everyone wants to be the top ranker, and many students compete for the top rank. It’s good and bad at the same time. It’s because when one student competes for ranking, he must make efforts and needs to be dedicated to study. Such a thing boosts the progress of a student, but at the same time, competition can be unhealthy, and in the competition, jealousy can be a troublesome thing and can bring several negative consequences.

That’s the reason, in many countries, it has been seen that they stopped grading students and tried to consider all the students the same. From the surface, it is a good thing, and it cannot discriminate between students, and there will be no first boy or last boy in a class, and equality can be maintained. But there is a negative side to it, and it’s that students do not compete. If I can get the pass marks, why should I study hard for an A+ when both will be equal? Students lose motivation, as arranging the pass mark is not so difficult in my opinion.

Even if there is no grade system, the good students will outshine the other students through their activities. Even without the grade system as well as the rank system, they will outshine the other students, as their activity will make them superiors among the other students. They don’t need the rank system to get the thing they want unless they want to keep a low profile. It can happen for a few students only, but in most cases, students will lose their spirits, and it can be a very bad thing. It can be a reason for leading the future generation to be lazy in case of education.

Even at the current time, I think that the education system is not so effective. I don’t think highly of education, as it’s not teaching us things related to practical life. I think that the current education system needs to be more practical, and in such a case, if the grading system stops, I think that most of the guardians won’t be interested in teaching their kids in school, as without grades there will be no way for them to understand the progress of their children. People will think that it’s better not to waste money on academic institutions, and I think it’s natural. Why should they send their children to school using money when they won’t know their progress?

intishar, I’d keep grading — but change what grades measure.

A system with no grading sounds fair, but it can quietly reward minimum effort. Your point about “why chase A+ if pass marks bring the same outcome?” is exactly the weakness. Even posts around exam preparation on InLeo keep coming back to the same idea: consistent effort matters, not just showing up at the exam hall @bestrakibul2.

The real problem is not grading itself. The problem is when grades become a student’s whole identity. Ranking students as “best” and “worst” can create jealousy, fear, and unhealthy pressure — but removing all measurement is throwing away the thermometer because the fever is uncomfortable.

A better system would combine grades + feedback + skill-based evaluation. Exams can measure discipline and understanding, while projects, presentations, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving show the parts a number often misses.

So my take: don’t abolish grades; make them less cruel and less narrow. Competition is useful when it pushes students forward. It becomes toxic only when schools teach children that their value is equal to their rank.

That's just it... Not grading would eventually make people lazy, leaving out that zeal to study well and it still won't leave out that spirit of leading in those intellectual students as they will still outshine as the brilliant ones though that may not be the main purpose of leaning out the grades sha

I agree with you that the current education system should become more practical because many students graduate with plenty of theory but little real life experien. So practical learning will help the students to develop skills, creativity and problem solving abilities that can be useful to them in everyday life and in their future careers.
