I'm not a bookworm, please

in Hive Learners5 days ago

Sometime last year, I saw a young lady walk up to me in my workspace to sell her book to me.

“Book? You’re really the author? What’s the book all about?”

I asked because she didn’t look like someone who could write a book—at least that was what I thought. She went on to answer all my questions and said the book was merely a story that would inspire children to live well.

“Hahahah! I can’t even think of sitting down to read any hard copy book, not to talk of reading a book meant for children.”

My laughter gave her a discouraging vibe, but she didn’t allow that to weigh her down. She succeeded in persuading me to buy the book. So, I bought it. Well, I didn’t exactly buy it per se; I have her an amount that above the cost and collected a copy of the book. I also told her about Hive, which would help her since she’s into writing.

I wanted to read the book. I wanted to sit down and flip through the pages of the book, but hell no—the interest to read a hard copy book or any book at all had left me a long time ago. I just gave the book to some children who usually come around to disturb me to read, and till today, they still disturb me to buy them books.

The last time I read a hard copy book was six years ago, and I was forced to read that one, even though I later fell in love with the book. The pastor I served under liked me so much and just wanted me to grow spiritually by all means. He would always suggest reading spiritual books and point out how books helped his spiritual life to spring up. Meanwhile, then, I was all about looking for anything that would give me money and wasn’t ready to agree to anything that wouldn’t yield money. I told him many times to recommend the books while I go for the e-copies , but he refused, and that was when he handed me a voluminous book about the Holy Spirit to read. No lies, I enjoyed every bit of that book, but when I finished it, I found it very hard to pick another one to read, and that has been the case ever since then.

So, when the girl came to sell the book to me, I laughed while imagining a scenario where I would have to pick up the book and spend hours reading it. The impossibility of that made me laugh even more.

When am I intending to read a book or break out of this zone?

Being honest here, reading a book is not in view for me at the moment. I don’t have any plans for it. I know books educate, keep one informed, and can also be read for fun, but for me right now, all my mind is focused on is how to hit a jackpot of money.

Every now and then, the pastor in my current church always urges us to go for books, but that sermon has been entering through my left ear and leaving through the right.

Thanks for reading.

Please when you're hitting, hit for two abeg.
Reading used to fun for me but now a lot of things have taken my mind and it feels like doing a chore.

!lolz 😂😂
I know it's discipline but I feel the people who sit to read books have life on a soft mode for them 😅

What if life becomes soft when you start reading? 🤲

This reminds me of my aunt that uses books as a sleeping therapy. lol. Anytime she wants to sleep, she will get a book and start reading.

Hahahaha!
If it's just to invoke the spirit of sleep, it sounds fine😅

🤣🤣🤣 from your title I already know this is definitely going to be a wild read. So you mean reading books is torture to you. Well I can understand it is not easy to sit still to read a book. But I'll advice you give it a try, there's a lot you'll find there

Right now, it's a torture.
Imagine spending hours reading a book and no money is to be earned. Let me get excessively rich first before thinking of joining the leagues that read books for fun.

Thanks For stopping by
