Messy expenses

in Hive Learners4 days ago

Guys! Each time I think about this crazy and wrong decision I made last year, I always feel like I was charmed. But meanwhile, I was the one who developed the idea and went ahead to execute it 😅.

It was around November last year (2025). A shop close to me, which my people were actually occupying, was about to be vacated because they wanted to relocate to a shop closer to their house. I was told to move in and continue using the place since the rent had not expired. Meanwhile, the place I was using then was not okay for my work.

The plan was for me to move into the shop and use it until the rent expired, after which I would pay the next rent. At the same time, the landlord was already talking about renovating the block.

I rushed in to take the shop. Mehn, the place was very spacious, tiled, with good wiring, and to top it all, there was a tap connected directly to the shop, which made my work much easier. I was the happiest person at that point.

THE EXPENSES:

After I had moved in, the former occupants of the shop came and said they wanted to remove the protectors used to wall the spacious corridor because the place they moved into did not have any. Instead of them pulling out the protectors and which will make me refix later, I decided to pay them the money so they could get new one for their new shop.

This money amounted to ₦350,000. I did not pay them directly; rather, I was told to pay the workman and also buy the rods to be fixed in their new shop.

Actually, I spent more money than that throughout the year, but that expense was the biggest single, one-time expense I made.

Guess what happened again?

Now, the renovation discussion has deepened, and from the look of things, the landlord may not allow us to retain the shop after the renovation. This means I might have to sell off the rods if the new occupant does not want them. And if I were to sell off the rods, there is no way the amount would reach ₦300,000, not to talk of the ₦350,000 I spent.

“Who sent me?”

This is the question I have kept asking myself. It feels as if I was enchanted to buy the rods, yet nobody actually talked me into it. I just thought it would be a big stress trying to fix new ones later.

Now, the only possible option left is to fight to retain the shop after the renovation. At least, let it be that I enjoyed the protectors for a long time before packing out or selling the rods. Selling them off after just two months of usage and at a much lower amount is a big loss to me. Another challenge is that I seriously need money this season.😂

Sometimes, some decisions look fine at the beginning, but when we get into them, regret steps in.

There is no wahala! Such is life!

Thanks for reading.
