Money is such an interesting concept because it puts us at the center of a complex world where we’re sometimes unable to choose between the advantages of not having too much of it and the disadvantages of having a shit load of it at our disposal.
When we’re in close proximity to money that is spendable, our lives suddenly improve beyond expectations, and we can see examples of this in our society. Every day, we come across rich people who have enough money to afford whatever lifestyle they want, spend freely on the vanities that pique their interest, and, of course, gift as much as they want to their loved ones.
On the other hand, our lack of money causes some form of distress to us, either physically or psychologically. You go to the hospital today and you see many sick people who can’t afford a quarter of their medical bills. The streets are filled with little children hawking different snacks with hopes that their efforts will bring them money to help build a better life. Parents are unable to afford three square meals for their families simply because they lack the means to do so.

In the middle of it all, it is no doubt that money is valuable to every single person on earth. The difference may only be in the degree to which they desire it.
But does it really guarantee happiness? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
If it did, nobody would be sad from a bad day at work. No one would cry over their loved ones not getting cured of a terminal disease, and maybe, we would care less about having a shoulder to lean on in times of trouble.
It's not enough that despite the limitations of money, people still believe that it solves every problem. The world has gone from simply chasing money to being crazy about it. Many young people have become so obsessed with the affluent lifestyles they see on social media that they would do anything to achieve it. A lot of parents no longer take responsibility in their homes; instead, they worship their kids whose source of income they know nothing about. Millions of people risk their lives and sacrifice their sleep working multiple jobs just to earn money, and living in an environment with such people has a way of influencing you negatively.

To ensure that we win the battle against the obsession with money, we must first acknowledge that money is a tool that can make or break us. The realization of this will help us take bold steps to ensure that we are left out of the rat race.
Secondly, it is important that we prioritize our personal needs and well-being before thinking of solving all the problems in the world. This is a necessary step because if we die today while chasing money, those whom we work so hard to impress or give a better life, will survive and figure a way out. In the end, it is our memory that gets lost in all of it. So take care of yourself first and work for you before anyone else.
Thirdly, I would advise everyone to take a step back from social media, which has now become a hub for encouraging poor lifestyles and chasing vanities. Mind what you consume, disengage from conversations that put pressure on you and discredits the need for a slow and steady path to success. Filter the advice you apply to your life because it has the power to shape your mindset or distract you from what’s more important.
Lastly, I encourage everyone to see life beyond material things because the more you bury yourself in the rat race of chasing money, the more you subconsciously attach your self-worth to it. So it’s pertinent that while we aspire to have money, nothing should override the need to preserve our morals, values, and desire for a fulfilling life defined by ourselves alone. And I hope that one day we will begin to treat ourselves more kindly regardless of how much we have left in our pockets.
