Hi Great Farmers👋
Today, I feel like sharing my first time experience with you all. Everything has its own starting point and when I looked back at when I started my raising broiler chickens. I must confess that it wasn't easy but I just want to share my experience with new broiler chicken farmers to learn from.

Venturing into poultry farming was something I had always wanted to do, but I didn’t fully understand what I was getting into until I began my journey with broiler chickens.
I was very excited, at the beginning. I got my first set of chicks, twelve broiler chicks and have it in mind that everything would go smoothly. But within the first few weeks, I have already started facing serious challenges that almost made me to give up.
At the beginning, one of my biggest mistakes was lack of proper preparation. I didn’t fully understand the importance of temperature control. Some days were too cold for the chicks, and other times too hot which I don't know how to go about it and this affected their growth and made some of them weak.
Another issue I went through was feeding. I didn’t realize how important quality feed is in poultry farm. Trying to save money by buying cheaper feed affected the weight of my birds, and in the end, I didn’t get the profit I expected.
I also struggled with water management and one the reason is because of lack of water in my area especially during the dry season. Clean and drinkable water is very important, but I didn’t take it seriously at first and give any water I see to them. This led to some health issues among the birds.
But despite all these challenges, one thing is I didn’t give up because I have already made up my mind from the start. I started learning, asking questions, and improving little by little and fortunately, I have people around who can put me through. With time, I began to see better results.
💡 Lessons I Learned:
- Always prepare well before starting because good preparation birth great results.
- Maintain proper temperature for chicks
- Invest in good quality feed
- Keep water clean at all times
- Never stop learning which is very important because poultry farming is very complex.
Poultry farming is profitable, but it requires knowledge, patience, and consistency.
If you are planning to venture into broiler farming, I will advise you to learn first before investing your money.
