Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, more specifically colorectal cancers, are on the rise. While the above-60 cancer rate is quite the same, there is an alarming increase in such cancer below-50 people! Experts have pointed out some reasons for this:
- Obesity
- A Western-style diet (processed meat and sweetened beverages)
- Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
- Smoking
- Excessive alcohol use, and
- Exposure to microplastics
