Choosing a Traveling Toy Companion

in We Are Alive Tribe18 hours ago (edited)

My action figure collection has been growing steadily since the onset of the pandemic, and it has grown to such a huge collection that I could hardly enjoy each and every piece of figure I have at any given time.

Lately, I have been reminded by a colleague and fellow toy enthusiast that I may have been losing the real enjoyment of having these toys, and I longed to recapture my childhood joy of having them.

So I thought about the times when I had JUST ONE action figure which I absolutely treasured, to the point that I brought it with me whenever I went (that usually meant school in those days). That one figure was the Kenner Super Powers Green Lantern, shown in the pic below. I have sold that one long ago, so I just looked for an image online.

With the present collection I have, I have lost sight of this joy and purpose and began to work towards recapturing it again.

Being a massive Green Lantern fan, and as a homage to my original toy, I looked at the one I just opened, my second copy of the Total Heroes Green Lantern by Mattel, shown in the pics below. I started to test it by bringing it along with me in different parts of the house.

The dilemma of bringing it along outside the house, however, lingered, as it was too big for my satchel and would likely hinder my pockets and even get damaged due to its many moving parts and large size.

So I considered the small GL figure from McFarlane, shown below.

Finally, I opted for the Injustice 3.75-inch DC Collectibles Hal Jordan, from the two-pack with Saint Walker. He is just the right size for the purpose! And I feel I'm going to love bringing him along everywhere.

As for the issue of his container, I sought out things in my room I could use that are not too bulky. I finally saw an old eyeglass case where the figure fits perfectly. The case is still a bit bulky, but acceptable. All problems solved!

In case I get tired of this particular figure, I currently have two to three alternative small figures I can rotate on a regular basis.

Thinking of ways how to enjoy my collection even more has made me happier overall. Now I don't have to miss my superhero buddies when I am away. It makes me so glad to be alive!

It's amazing how our passions can evolve so much over time.
How nice that you remember that Green Lantern figure with so much affection, it seems that it had a special value for you beyond being just a toy.
Perhaps you could try to focus on a few figures at a time, as you did as a child, and rediscover that special bond with each one.
Sometimes less is more, and true enjoyment is in the connection we achieve with what we have.
I hope you can get that joy back soon.

When we buy a new toy for my boy, he carries it with him all the times. I see some similarities here!

It's good to hear about your passion about toy figures!
