This is my first post in this community, moderated by @tattoodjay, and it follows on from the changes I want to make in my life: to have more contact with nature. More walks in the forest, as I mentioned in my previous post.
It was with this sense of change in mind that, on September 21, I accepted an invitation to go trail running in the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve, located between Almalaguês and Rio de Galinhas, fifteen kilometers from the city of Coimbra in central Portugal.
On this trail, entitled “Path to invent the future/Descent to Mata Senhora da Alegria,” participants had the opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna of this natural treasure, as well as stories about the lives of the local community.
The biologist from Milvoz - Association for the Protection and Conservation of Nature, Manuel Malva, introduced us to the bio-reserve and the projects underway to maintain and preserve this natural space.
This trail was once part of the lives of the residents of Almalaguês and Rio de Galinhas. Childhood games were remembered by the hosts of the walk, dressed in the style of a bygone era.
About this Bio-Reserve
In the communication shared on the Milvoz association website, we can learn that “On its arenite soils, there is a leafy vegetation cover with Atlantic-Mediterranean characteristics. In the wetter, shadier areas, the oak and chestnut trees dominate, while on the more exposed, drier headlands there is Mediterranean forest, abundant in species such as the cork oak and the strawberry tree.”
“Invasive plant species control, ecological recovery of damaged areas and restoration of the river bank gallery, construction of nest boxes and water points, making and maintaining visitor trails and sessions of biodiversity observation are some of the activities organised by Milvoz at the Senhora da Alegria Bio-Reserve.”

Foi neste sentido de mudança que no passado dia 21 de setembro aceitei o convite para um trail na Bio-Reserva Senhora da Alegria, fica entre Almalaguês e Rio de Galinhas, a quinze quilómetros da cidade de Coimbra. Centro de Portugal.

Neste trail, intitulado "Percurso para inventar o futuro/Descida à Mata Senhora da Alegria” , os participantes tiveram oportunidade de conhecer a flora e fauna deste tesouro natural, bem como histórias de vida da comunidade da região.

O biologo da Milvoz - Associação de Protecção e Conservação da Natureza, Manuel Malva, deu-nos a conhecer a bio-reserva e os projectos em curso para manter e preservar este espaço natural.

Este caminho foi no passado parte da vida dos moradores de Almalaguês e Rio de Galinhas. Brincadeiras de infância foram lembradas pelos anfitriões da caminhada, vestidas ao rigor da época passada.

Na comunicação partilhada no website da associação Milvoz podemos ficar a saber que “Sobre os seus solos areníticos, desenvolve-se um frondoso coberto vegetal com características atlântico-mediterrânicas, estabelecendo-se nas zonas mais húmidas e sombrias um bosque de folhosas, onde domina o carvalho-alvarinho e o castanheiro, ao passo que nas cabeceiras mais expostas e secas impera o bosque mediterrânico, abundante em espécies como o sobreiro e o medronheiro.”
