Last Wednesday of June '25

**↑My cats had been play fighting under my bed, and decided to take a break↑** So I went out to the garden first thing this morning, and discovered that the battle had begun behind my back ![]() ↑Horn worm↑ I sprayed those two and every tomato plant out there with [Bt] (https://www.planetnatural.com/bacillus-thuringiensis/ >**Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a naturally occurring, soil-borne bacteria that has been used since the 1950s for natural insect control.**

You have probably already heard a number of different people recommend using Bacillus thuringiensis, or Bt pest management, in your own backyard garden. But what exactly is it, and how does it work in the garden? Bacillus thuringiensis, shortened to Bt, is a gram-positive bacterium that, during the process of sporulation, produces parasporal crystal proteins having insecticidal activity. These proteins are known as cry toxins.

Simply put, it consists of a spore, which gives it persistence, and a protein crystal within the spore, which is toxic. That toxic protein differs, depending on the subspecies of Bt producing it, yielding a variance of Bt toxic to different insect species (or none at all).

When the bacteria is consumed by certain insects, the toxic crystal is released in the insect’s highly alkaline gut, blocking the system which protects the pest’s stomach from its own digestive juices.

The stomach is penetrated, and the insect dies by poisoning from the stomach contents and the spores themselves. This same mechanism is what makes Bt harmless to birds, fish, and mammals whose acidic gut conditions negate the bacteria’s effect.Squash Beetle which in this case is infesting my pumpkins

After I got the above loaded, I had to make my way to a VA appointment in Marietta Ga

On my way there, I have passed this ruin so many times I cannot count. I've heard that it was a Leather Tannery, but was destroyed in the "War of Northern Aggresseion" Oakton Leather Tannery Those bricks are the 3d or perhaps 4th floor of the original structure, that is a rather deep ravine where a stream once flowed at the bottom The above is from the web page I cited above

On the way home I was called by an assistant Activities Director about coming to perform once more. I'm trying to get back in touch with her. I also stopped and visited with some friends in Marietta
My friends have a large garden in their back yard, with chickens and even a baby turkey

(!worldmappin 33.92868 lat -84.54654 long d3scr), then came on back here.

Hello friend how are you am back here hope you are good @jerrytsuseer

Good to see you again @tobywalter , I hope you have been well.

Yes @jerrytsuseer hope you are good too health wise

I sent you a direct message in Discord, where we used to chat.
You have not responded. Do you not have access to Discord now @tobywalter?

Yes I do friend

What an educational post! I've never heard of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), but it's kinda freaky how it works. 😯 I hope it gets rid of the Squash Beetles that are ruining your pumpkin plants — although they're cute, so sad they have to be destructive. I, too, would be curious about ruins like that! Good for you, looking them up to see what they are! Too bad they don't have an historic marker somewhere nearby. 😕 That's awesome that the Activities Director wants you to perform again! You bring so much joy and many smiles when you do that! 😊

Here are pics from this morning, I'm afraid I mixed the Bt too strong, it certainly got the hornworms

But it also seems to have burned all the leaves where I sprayed the yellow bugs

And now there are white/gray counterparts

They scattered when I went to touch them, I thought they may have been the dead remains of yesterday's pests

I got some real pesticide to spot spray those buggers.
Thanks for commenting my friend ♥💚

Ugh! Garden pests! I've been battling ground squirrels, pocket gophers, and rabbits. Some insect has been munching on the sunflowers as well. Good luck with your war.

Your house looks so good! can't believe it's the same place. Hope the bt works, it am a big fan of correct pH now. If the pH is good for a plant, pest don't bother it as much. some, but not as much.

That pic was from a couple of years ago. I may put up the flag bunting this year for the 4th because I am expecting company
Thanks for the compliment @owasco

Lets hope the bt helps the garden

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day

Thanks JJ, I got a last minute photo of my friends backyard, but when trying to edit in ecency, it screwed up the formatting at the end, Peakd insists there are improper characters in my tags.
I just can't win

Dont worry happens to all of us its the system not us at least thats what I keep telling myself ;)
