Benidorm.

A city that many love and come here every summer, and the same city that many reject because of its "cheap" tourism, which seems not so cheap anymore. It depends on your budget and your taste, because the truth is that it has completely different sides.

Skyscrapers predominate; they are the ones you can see the most, but there are also hidden corners that are gems, especially if we experience them in winter, without so many tourists.

20250827_193153.jpg

The general image?
Crowded beaches, equally crowded bars, often filled with drunk tourists. If you don't know the veins of this city well, if you don't travel like a red blood cell transporting oxygen and don't reach its beating heart, you could get lost in its cold extremes. You can end up in its ugly parts. In sticky, from sweat on a humid day, like today. Sticky, from beer spilt on the pavements.

Whether you are in the group of people who like Benidorm also depends on the direction in which you walk. Towards the setting sun, enjoying this hazy view, or you walk in the other direction, where you see things more clearly.

I preferred the clear view while I was there this afternoon.

I wanted to see blue skies, which couldn't happen with this humidity in the air and haze. But seeing the cloudy air now, from home, maybe it wasn't that bad. It had a different, mystical touch.

The most famous and most tourist area of this city is Levante. Separated from Poniente by the old town, which we won’t visit in this post, there is another corner, rocky and rugged, located below the Sierra Helada. Rincón de Loix.

20250827_192840.jpg

Ah, well, it seems there are new corners for me in this concrete jungle of buildings too. I have never seen this painted stone wall.

20250827_192857.jpg

Let’s get closer.

20250827_192441.jpg

20250827_192640.jpg

There were people here, bathing, fishing, passing the afternoon on the rocks. It was a bit awkward to take pictures of the details, but I was lucky with this detail; the phrase I liked was free of people. Life… is also free.

20250827_192656.jpg

Free Life

Hmm... apart from free life, we also have here a free T-shirt, free shorts and free flip flops.

20250827_192611.jpg

And this vibe..? Isn't it already better than the skyscrapers?

I was tempted to stay here a bit more; however, I had to meet someone who would take me home. We had the time and place agreed, so I had no choice but to walk a bit more for this Wednesday walk until reaching the meeting point. Then, I met a herd of goats and sheep, guarded by their shepherd.

20250827_194520.jpg

Right here, by Don Pancho, I was asked "cómo vas" - if I was close to the meeting point. Of course, I was at one minute of arriving.

I can walk quickly or slowly, depending on the freedom I want to walk through life.

I saved this post to comment on it after my break. An uncle of mine, my mother's brother, worked at the Hotel Don Pancho. When I was little, I found the name very funny because I thought it meant Don Sancho, from Don Quixote, and that they were pronouncing it wrong. 😂 If I remember correctly, my mother had a postcard with a photo on it. I'll look for it, and if she still has it, I'll take a photo so you can compare the before and after, hehe. I'm really excited to see it here on Hive.

I hope you are well. I am gradually getting back to activity. 😘

Thank you! 🙏

Thank you very much @palomap3 for saving this post and commenting on it. I really appreciate it, especially as it was your time to disconnect from online things and relax, I think we all need it from time to time; and secondly as you counted this anecdote hehehe Don Sancho 😁 . I imagine it was completely different back in time... Benidorm grew a lot, and its buildings too. Enjoy your phase of getting back to the normal activities 🤗

Good evening or good morning @mipiano, there are some wonderful images in this post, the ones looking out to sea without skyscrapers. Others with skyscrapers devouring the coastline make my hair stand on end.

However, as you say, every place has its heart, you just have to know how to get there (and have the intention to get there).

A big hug.

Good morning @enraizar, a beating heart is very important, for people, places and all the things! 😇
We are at the beach now, a very different one from Benidorm, just sand dunes surround us 😀

Good morning @mipiano... Have a great day at the beach. 😃🤗

Gracias. And have a great day you too 😊

😊 🐬

It's still one of my favourite holiday destinations 😀 We seem to end up there at least a couple of times a year.

It's fair to say that they seem to have been making efforts to curb some of the worst excesses and move the town at least a little more upmarket over the last few years. Or perhaps the audience is gradually getting older, with the really rowdy elements calming down with the years !

The pea-men and fake violinists still come out to play when they think the police are having a break, though.....

One day we will accidentally meet in Benidorm 😆

Without doubts, Benidorm has a microclimate, along with the surrounding towns that makes its weather perfect at any time of the year. I loved the winter walks there, more than the summer haze.
Oh, the fake violinist 🤦‍♀️
My son, who is studying the violin, was freaking out every time he saw him 😂

There's a lot of tall buildings in there, like how many floors those building has 🤔. If I visit there for the first time I might just look up to those building get mesmerized with them. Like we don't have that tall in our small town. The tallest one I saw here in our province was a five storey buildings. And I think the view of the sea with those tall buildings as the background is just beautiful. I'm also wondering how high the water can actually reach those tall buildings if ever you know, the water rise during typhoon 🤔

Well, this city is famous for its skyscrapers. The tallest residential building has 47 floors, but it is on the other side of the city, not where I walked yesterday. Here is a list of the tall buildings of this place. 😉

Great article to see and... ¡WOW!... What a shot @mipiano friend!!!!

Thank you @jlinaresp 😇

This was an amazing tour ... you are right that the humidity and haze gave the whole scene a quality that will probably never be repeatable ... I love that you took the busyness of the city and understood it, and walked into its most thoughtful corners thoughtfully ... a good use of freedom, well-illustrated!

I know this city quite well, we lived in the nearby town (separated just by one hill from this concrete jungle) for 13 years 😅
I hope we don't forget to use and live our freedom day by day 😇

It must constantly be remembered ... I have been thinking along this line this week as well while listening to some new composers' piano music ... but the Ghost of Musical Greatness Past and I will put that out tomorrow morning ... staying free and not getting entangled can be complicated, but doable once our vision is clear, free of the need to be and see the crowd...

It gave me the feeling of a thoughtful, philosophical walk. As I read it, you were thinking about many things, nostalgic?

This walk... I was fascinated by the sculptures, all of them, especially the woman at the beginning and the shepherd, the views of the sea with that aura of mystery and the contrast with the skyscrapers that seem to reach high into the sun.

Do you talk to the sculptures too? That's good!😘

Hmmm, I am not sure, I think not so nostalgic, or at least I didn't realize it would have that nuance. But you have a good eye, so you might be right. 😉
I have been talking to the sculptures since forever haha
Thank you 😇 🍀

The important thing is that they reply to you!😃

Benidorm really looks like it has two different faces – the crowded and noisy one, and then these peaceful corners you found. I like how you captured that ‘free life’ vibe, it feels so much more refreshing than the skyscrapers. The goats and sheep at the end made your walk even more special!”

I liked that rocky corner, so different side of the city, but that's how it was before all these buildings were built.

Yeah, it really has a different vibe! Feels a bit like stepping back in time before the city got so busy."

It's very similar to Mar del Plata, the most famous beach in Buenos Aires, a concrete jungle with a sea, but with a different detail: the shepherd with his flock, is there room for a little owl to join them? 🦉

I think I have seen a little owl among the bushes, where the shepherd with his flock was. If Buhito was missing yesterday for some time... maybe he was actually here, in Benidorm ;)

In Argentina, there's a brand of mayonnaise and sauces called Benidorm... now I find out it's the name of a city in Spain 😅.

image.png

En serio? 😯😆 I didn't know that haha, thank you for the heads up. Maybe the owners of this mayonnaise factory visited Benidorm and liked it, who knows, but really, this is a huge surprise for me to hear about this brand. Thanks @lauramica 🤓

You're welcome! Have a nice day ❤️

¿¿Qué miedo da soltar eh??😉 Te entiendo perfectamente jiji 🤭. Cualquier pretexto para dar un paseo de miércoles es bueno 🤗

A very thorough review, thank you.

Clear view is always the best

Hey @mipiano you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘

I've always wanted to travel to other places, but the reality hit me that I don't have enough money. I can't even travel around the city for now due to a low budget. It's still a dream for now, but I'm always hoping that I can travel around the world soon and visit such wonderful places like those. That was so breathtaking.

I lived close to this city in the past, but then we moved last year. Yesterday, I found myself there as I wanted to accompany my son while he was driving to a nearby town, so actually, travels can also happen for different reasons. But yes, that is true, money is needed for moving around.
